Japan is one of the leading destinations that Thai dream of visiting once in a lifetime to appreciate the beauty of art, culture, and innovative technology. This has led to healthy relationship between Japanese and Thai, and it has already been deep-rooted in the culture of both countries.

Based on the historical evidences, Thailand and Japan have become partners since the era of Ryukyu's Kingdom and Sukothai's Kingdom with the beginning of trade between Japanese merchants from Okinawa and Thai merchants. Trade between these two nations became so spread that there were trades between Thailand and Japan more than the trades between other countries and Thailand in the same period. Since then, the relations between Thailand and Japan became closer and closer.

Then, the official relations began on 26 September 1887 with the sign of "Declaration of Amity and Commerce" made by Mr. Chuzo Aoki, Deputy Chancellor of Japan's Foreign Affair, and His Royal Highness Prince Devawongse Varopakarn, Chancellor of Siam's Foreign Affair.
