Mazda growth continues, sales top 36,000 units after Q3 New CX-5 to be launched in Q4

Mazda Sales (Thailand) Co. preparing to launch its Q4 offensive, amidst intense market competition and economic growth thanks to the stimulus packages from the government. Domestic auto sales have also been growing, averaging at 69,000 units per month during the past 3 months, which is considered as the low season. Meanwhile, sales of Mazda vehicles throughout the past 9 months have been highly successful. During the first 3 quarters of 2017, Mazda has sold a total of 36,600 vehicles, an increase of 15% compared to the corresponding period last year. The small passenger car market in particular was back in business, with the Mazda2 subcompact enjoying a 30% sales increase. In November, Mazda will officially introduce a new SUV for the Thai market.

Mr. Chanchai Trakarnudomsuk, President of Mazda Sales (Thailand) Co. Ltd., said Mazda has been staging numerous marketing events since the start of 2017 along with raising the image of its showrooms. "We also take care of existing customers by offering 1-day parts delivery service and providing competitive prices compared to other brands in the market, along with opening 45-minute express repair bays," he said.

"We also introduce minor change models to brighten up our product lineup consistently, leading to increasing popularity for Mazda vehicles. We are confident of achieving our 51,000-unit sales target, or 20% growth," he said, adding that the total market is expected to grow by 7-10% in 2017, finishing at over 820,000 units.

Important factors that enabled Mazda's rising popularity is customers' satisfaction in the SKYACTIV technology, as well as attractive design and attention to details during the production stage, leading to customer confidence. Outstanding performance and fuel economy plus various driving technologies in every Mazda model are what the customers are looking for. Mazda sales has grown by 6% during Q1 before shooting up by 20% during Q2 and 20% during Q3. A new model will be introduced during Q4 to strengthen the Mazda lineup in Thailand.

Mr. Chanchai said the Thai economy maintains growth, with the tourism sector enjoying the high season with an increase in both overseas and local tourists. Exports are also showing a good sign of growth, while the government's economic stimulus measures have been directed at investments in infrastructure, supporting jobs creation, income as well as help to drive the economy during the year-end period. "Government investment as well as EEC will help create a strong momentum and Thai economy each its growth targets, along with rising consumer confidence index particularly," he said, "The large number of travelling during the year-end season will bring more cash into the system."

In September 2017, Mazda sold a total of 4,430 vehicles, equivalent to a growth of 23% compared to the same month last year. The most popular model was the Mazda2 subcompact, with sales of 2,918 units (40% increase). The CX-5 SUV is gaining much attention from customers during this period after Mazda announced a special promotion consisting of 6-year interest-free installment offer plus Mazda Premium Insurance and Mazda Care free maintenance. Sales of the CX-5 surged by as much as 121% to 534 units in September.

The Mazda3, after going through a facelift and equipment level upgrade, including the new SKYACTIV VEHICL DYNAMICS and G-Vectoring Control (GVC), plus global safety levels, experienced increased popularity with sales of 346 units. The CX-3 freestyle crossover is also popular with sales of 249 units, while sales of the MX-5 roadster amounted to 12 units. Meanwhile, sales of the BT-50 PRO pickup truck reached 371 units in September.

After the end of Q3, Mazda sales were sizzling with a total of 36,621 units, a growth of 15% compared to the same period last year. The Mazda2 enjoyed a tremendous 30% growth with sales of 22,516 units, and is the second-most popular model in its segment (the Mazda2 was the top-selling model in August). The Mazda3 is also on a roll, with sales of 3,798 units, growing by 22%, and sales of the CX-5 SUV was also strong, growing by 22% to 2,895 units. The Mazda CX-3 crossover achieved sales of 2,971 units during the first 3 quarters of the year, while BT-50 PRO sales amounted to 4,413 units. A total of 28 units of the Mazda MX-5 was sold during this period.

Mr. Thee Permpongpanth, Senior Marketing Director of MST, stated about Mazda's strategy for the final quarter of 2017. "Mazda is preparing to launch a new model into the market which will significantly boost our SUV market performance. In addition, Mazda gives importance to the world of communications – we believe that the most trustworthy words are from direct experience. Mazda is relaying these experiences through stories and emotions of Mazda users in daily life, through a television commercial. We want to relay the relationship with the brand to our customers which means that customer service has been continuing from purchasing process to after sales service, as well as convenience while receiving all services at new concept of customer care. All customers' sharing experiences have been proceeded to develop business further," he said.

"Another strategy for owning a Mazda vehicle is sales campaigns and promotions, including 0% interest and 6-year installment for the CX-5 that has been highly popular so we are extending the offer to October 31," he added.
