IKEA Bang Yai… Now, There’s a Choice!

Thursday 15 March 2018 12:22
Today, IKEA Thailand welcomes visitors to our second store, IKEA Bang Yai, the biggest store in Southeast Asia and the only IKEA store in the world that is fully integrated into a shopping centre. With a total area of 50,278 square meters, 41 room settings, a choice of 8,000 products, two Restaurants, two Cafes, and entrances and checkouts at every level, IKEA Bang Yai aims to inspire and create a convenient shopping experience for residents in western Bangkok.

"We have ambitious plans to grow with Thailand over the long-term, striving for our vision to create a better everyday life for the many people in Thailand and Southeast Asia. IKEA is growing, now, you can come and shop at the IKEA store near you – both in eastern and western Bangkok," said Mr. Christian Rojkjaer, Managing Director of IKEA Southeast Asia.

"We are very excited to finally open our doors and present customers with the most unique IKEA shopping experience. Now, customers will have an increased choice of quality and affordable Swedish home furnishings and another place where they can go to have a taste of Swedish food. Kids can also have a great time in Småland while their parents are shopping. With all of this, we are certain that IKEA Bang Yai will be able to provide a great day out for the entire family," added Mr. Christian.

"We learned from doing home visits and research that people in western Bangkok would greatly welcome an IKEA store. The area has a fast growing population with a high proportion of newly formed families which have an interest in making their homes better. Our team of 450 co-workers is ready to serve the more than 7.3 million customers living within 60 minutes from the store and millions more beyond that," said Mr. Thomas Friberg, Store Manager at IKEA Bang Yai.

Located at CentralPlaza WestGate with a great mix of tenants lined up by CPN, IKEA Bang Yai is now part of a vibrant retail destination, further boosting WestGate as a great place to eat, shop and play. With convenient road access in addition to being directly connected to the MRT Purple Line, customers will be able to reach our store with ease by public transit, taxi or personal car.

The new store also comes with a new layout. With entrances and checkouts at every level, customers will have more freedom in creating their own shopping journey. They can just grab and go or take the full tour of our blue box store. To further enhance the customer experience, IKEA Bang Yai plans to launch a new feature, the IKEA Store App, following the opening. The feature will enable customers to find the items they want with ease; just key in an item and the app will quickly guide you to what you are looking for.

Apart from providing more choice and convenience for customers, IKEA is also focusing on sustainability. The bigger we grow, the more we care for people and the planet. Take the building of the new store as an example; it was designed and built according to green building standards. Once IKEA Bang Yai opens, IKEA will be the first retailer in Thailand that will meet LEED Platinum and Green Mark Platinum requirements for green building certifications which shows IKEA's commitment to the environment.

To celebrate our second store in Thailand, visitors can go to their nearest IKEA store to enjoy various promotions and in-store activities throughout the opening day and weekend from March 15-18. IKEA is also offering special welcome gifts for the first 100 customers at both store locations, who will receive a free IKEA gift card valued at 500 baht. In addition, the first 10,000 visitors will get a limited edition souvenir. Over 100 popular products will also be available in our special promotion starting from 15 March – 29 April 2018 at IKEA Bangna and IKEA Bang Yai.
