Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, unveiled a full range of innovative products and technologies under the theme of “Mobile Changes the World” at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2014 event, which was held in Barcelona, Spain during February 24-27, 2014. These new innovations are primed to transform the world of telecommunications with cutting-edge technologies in ubiquitous, high-performance networks and powerful smart devices. The “cloud, pipe, device” strategy employed by Huawei serves as a reminder of the company’s expertise in all areas across the entire telecom industry.

“Mobile internet and cloud computing have brought about a huge transformational change to all industries. Huawei has always been supporting the transformation of carriers from pipe-only operation to information service operation through our integration with the industry ecosystem," said Leif Zheng, Huawei’s President of IT Product Line. “Huawei has adopted a strategy of “cloud, pipe, device” to provide customers with value-added products, solutions and applications in over 170 countries.”

New Smart Devices Unveiled for 4G Era

For this year’s MWC, Huawei unveiled a range of new smart devices engineered for a life without limits, powered by 4G technology.

HUAWEI MediaPad X1: This 4G-capable phablet combines the features of a smartphone and a tablet in a sleek, aluminum body that measures just 7.18mm thick. The 7-inch touchscreen provides razor-sharp Full HD images, while a powerful 1.6GHz quad-core processor keeps this Android 4.2 Jelly Bean device fast and smooth. The phablet also sports a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera, a 5-megapixel front-facing camera, and a massive 5000mAh battery that can last as long as five full days of use.

HUAWEI TalkBand B1: Huawei’s first smartwatch can tell time, keep track of your fitness data, and turn into a headset for your smartphone. The 1.4-inch flexible OLED display can be removed from the wristband and used as a wireless Bluetooth 4.1 headset with 7 hours of battery life. Compatible with both Android (version 2.3+) and iOS (5.0+) devices, the TalkBand B1 has sensors that keep track of your steps, distance traveled, estimated calories burned, or even sleep patterns. The embedded battery is good for 6 days of use, and an anti-theft function makes the band vibrate when you are more than 10 meters away from the paired phone.

HUAWEI MediaPad M1: An 8-inch tablet with 4G support, the MediaPad M1’s 1280x800 screen and front-facing stereo speakers are excellent companions for all your entertainment content. Huawei’s exclusive software features allow you to watch videos or TV in a multi-window configuration while using other apps. The MediaPad M1 is powered by a 1.6GHz quad-core processor and a 4800mAh battery, which can get the tablet through 8 hours of video playback. On the imaging side, the M1 sports a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera and a 1-megapixel front-facing shooter.

Huawei Ascend G6 4G: A gorgeous 4G-enabled smartphone with a 4.5-inch screen, the Ascend G6 4G is just 7.85mm thick and comes in black/gray, black/gold, white/pink and white/gold (3G version, just 7.5mm thick, is also available in black, white, pink, gold and blue). The 8-megapixel rear-facing and 5-megapixel front-facing cameras are always at the ready for any memorable moment, and Huawei’s unique Android tweaks make Emotion UI 2.0 a delight to navigate.

Building Networks for the Future with New Technologies for Operators and Partners

In addition to new smart devices, Huawei also introduced a wide range of other technologies at MWC.

Huawei’s nnovative small-cell base stations are engineered to help operators maximize network coverage in any indoor or outdoor location.

Prototype 5G base stations of all sizes were also on show, underlining their support for large amounts of bandwidth and ultra-fast, limitless connections.

High-performance 4G LTE technologies that create efficient end-to-end video content delivery systems, carrier aggregation setups and VoLTE (Voice over LTE) services.

Customer experience management (CEM) solutions that enable operators to enhance their services and access important customer data that creates actionable insights for future network and service development.

The new FMC (Fixed and Mobile Convergence) 2.0 solution allows operators to blend fixed and wireless telecommunication services and develop content aligned with these services.

SoftCOM redefines network architecture with software, bringing together the latest advances like cloud and virtualization and turning them into an architectural platform that is at once supremely flexible, simple to manage and easy for subsequent development to address business challenges.
