AIS announced 1Q18 financial result with Bt8,037mn net profit 50% 4G handset penetration and 571,800 fixed broadband customers

AIS recorded 1Q18 result with Bt8,037mn net profit, increasing 4.5% YoY and 4.4% YoY. Total revenue increased 5.3% YoY supported by both mobile and fixed broadband services. During the quarter, AIS also expand digital services through a joint venture in Rabbit LINE Pay.

Mr. Somchai Lertsutiwong, Chief Executive Officer of Advanced Info Service PLC or AIS explained "As a leading digital life services provider, AIS continued to improve products and services to serve customer lifestyle and business in digital era. In 1Q18, AIS marked a development regarding infrastructure and digital services. With an aim to be a Digital Platform for Thais, AIS invested in joint venture at Bt788m or 33.33% of Rabbit LINE Pay shares to support growing popularity of e-Money platform. By providing users with more convenience for payment and shopping, e-Money platform is considered as one of key drivers for digital economy. Also, AIS continued to strengthen its competency to support growing enterprise market through CS Loxinfo acquisition. During the quarter, AIS has officially signed the roaming on 2100MHz spectrum and equipment rental agreements with TOT to enhance the best customer experience.

Overall, in 1Q18, total revenue rose 5.3% YoY while service revenue improved 6.5% YoY and 2.5% QoQ, underpinned by mobile and fixed broadband segments. 4G handset penetration increased to 50% of total 40.1mn mobile subscribers while data usage grew from 6.7GB to 7.6GB per month following the popularity of video streaming. Fixed broadband business, AIS Fibre, has focused on acquiring customers in the current 50 cities coverage and recorded 571,800 customers. AIS Fibre revenue grew 85% YoY and 6.0% QoQ. In addition to premium contents and more than 100 free channels, AIS has recently added new channels, CNN and Cartoon Network, to enhance customer experiences with 24-7 world class news and entertainment on the go via AIS PLAY and at home via AIS PLAYBOX. Following well controlled costs and improved revenues, net profit grew 4.5% YoY and 4.4% QoQ to Bt 8,037mn.

AIS has maintained its guidance for the full year 2018. Service revenue is expected to grow 7-8% and EBITDA margin is expected to be in a range of 45-47%. Also, AIS will continue to strengthen network quality and efficiency to support growing demand for data under Bt35-38bn CAPEX investment this year.
