AIS remains the leader in innovative networks and digital technology for Thais as evidenced by its success in winning Thailand's Fastest Mobile Network Award for the fourth consecutive year from 2015-2018. Ookla, the company behind Speedtest, is the global leader in internet performance testing diagnostics with over 100 million users in 190 countries worldwide. Its speed testing is considered the most accurate and reliable in the standardized methodology of comprehensive analytics for global internet metrics. Ookla Speedtest has gained recognition from the international telecommunication industry.

Ookla Speedtest measured the internet performance of mobile phone users in Thailand who participated in the internet speed testing more than 8 million times during the 6 months from January to June 2018. This award underlines AIS's strong determination to provide hi-speed internet services nationwide and its Speed Score proves that it is the fastest internet service provider in Thailand compared with other carriers. Meanwhile, AIS has the lowest latency of devices with LTE technology, evidencing the capacity of the AIS leadership to move forward with the development of network quality. AIS enables Thais to experience the best mobile internet networks via every connection through innovative technologies including AIS NEXT G, which is the fastest network in Southeast Asia; AIS 4G ADVANCED and AIS 4.5G, which accommodates advanced technologies MIMO 4x4 with CA, 256 QAM DL/64 QAM UL, LAA (Licensed Assisted Access), FDD Massive MIMO 32T 32R; and AIS SUPER WiFi, which covers more than 100,000 access points nationwide.

Ookla Speedtest, the global leader in internet performance testing applications, was founded in 2006 and has users in 190 countries worldwide. The Ookla Speedtest is available in 17 languages. Information and statistics affirm Ookla Speedtest's leadership in speedtest applications around the globe, including in Thailand, in terms of recognition and reliability.

  • Ookla Speedtest applications at Google Play Store have been are downloaded more than 100 million times and downloads via the App Store rank it as the number 1 speedtest application and the 10th most popular free download.
  • More than 5 million downloads of Ookla Speedtest have been made in Thailand alone. In 2018, the number of downloads increased 470,000 times with over 2.8 million active users.
  • Ookla Speedtest has the largest global testing server infrastructure with more than 7,200 servers.
  • Since its founding, an unparalleled total of more than 20 billion tests have been taken with Speedtest. More than 10 million tests are undertaken every day to assess the speed of individual connections.
  • Ookla Speedtest has been recognized by leading technology and business media worldwide including Clnet, The Washington Post, FierceWirless, Forbes, Fortune, The New York Times, Mobile World Live, The Verge, and The Economic Times.

There are several speed test providers on the network today and the most important factor in ascertaining accurate testing results as a reference of network quality and reflecting real internet speed requires an adequate number of test samples representing a large percentage of the population. Ookla Speedtest is the only internet speed test that requires a sample population of at least 3% in each location to optimize precise and accurate outcomes. In addition, Ookla Speedtest uses a reliable methodology to assess the speed score of the internet network and provides speedtest global ranking and speedtest awards transparently by allowing all users to access the results via its dedicated website.

Other speed test providers are still in their infancy and have inadequate test samples to truly represent the population. Some speed test providers do not identify the source and number of test samples, giving rise to inaccurate and unreliable testing results.

More importantly, their speed tests cannot demonstrate the real internet speeds, which means test consumers obtain inaccurate data that doesn't reflect their real experience.

Mr. Pratthana Leelapanang, AIS's Chief Consumer Business Officer, says that AIS is constantly working to enhance all aspects of the network capabilities. The company is moving to develop advanced technologies that will allow Thais to experience similar speeds and efficiency to countries considered the global leaders in innovations. In addition, AIS is preparing its networks to meet the ever-growing usage by all customer segments.

"We are very glad to receive the Thailand's Fastest Mobile Network Award from Ookla Speedtest for the fourth consecutive year. It is a guarantee of quality from a leading global organization that provides the most accurate, transparent and reliable speedtest. On behalf of all its staff, AIS would like to thank the more than 40 million mobile phone users nationwide who trust the AIS service," Mr. Pratthana said.

Mr. Doug Suttles, CEO of Ookla, added: "Congratulations to AIS for winning the 2018 Fastest Mobile Network Speedtest(R) Award for the Q1–Q2 award period! This award recognizes AIS's commitment to delivering fast speeds to their customers across Thailand.

Speedtest Intelligence(R) data is comprised of millions of consumer-initiated tests performed on web and mobile Speedtest platforms. All providers in Thailand are represented in Speedtest Intelligence data, with significant volumes of tests nationwide. We can confirm that Speedtest Intelligence data supports the award for "Thailand's Fastest Mobile Network."

Speedtest Awards for top providers in speed are determined using a Speed Score that incorporates a measure of each provider's download and upload speed to rank network speed performance. To determine Speedtest Awards winners for mobile networks, Ookla(R) assesses the average of test results taken using Modern Devices. Modern Devices includes all mobile tests, regardless of connection technology used, as long as they are taken on devices that are identified as being capable of achieving the fastest speeds available in a market. After this filtering has taken place, Speed Score is applied as outlined above to determine the best speeds available in a country. Each top carrier accounts for at least 3% of the sample size in the geographic area.

Overall, we have the fastest speeds from tests taken with Speedtest which we have a report and result of each countries for all to review on Ookla Website for the advantages of consumer to see the qualitative data of the speedtest including and for improving the communication technology" Mr. Suttles said.
