The COVID-19 situation has spread across the world and persisted since the beginning of the year. Central Food Retail Group, which operates Tops and Family Mart under Central Retail Group, continues to demonstrate its commitment to our society alongside offering safe services to the public. In Thailand, the COVID-19 situation has gradually improved, with fewer reported cases thanks to strong efforts by the government and people to practice social distancing and stay home. Many businesses have adopted work from home policy and strict safety measures. In such an unusual circumstance, many people have been affected - many people have lost their sources of income, and do not have access to items of necessity. Meanwhile, people are now more careful about spending money. Amidst all this, healthcare professionals have been working tirelessly and facing risks to treat COVID-19 patients.

Stephane Coum, Chief Executive Officer of Central Food Retail Group, a part of Central Retail, said, “To live our commitment on running our business with social contributions in various aspects, to help the Thai society in the COVID-19 crisis, Tops and Family Mart have initiated many activities to offer assistance to all sectors, particularly people who have been impacted by the COVID-19 situation, including healthcare professionals. We have launched three missions so far, the first being the distribution of 1,000 relief kits to assist the affected. Each bag includes a 5kg bag of rice, UHT milk, cooking oil, instant noodles, canned fish, salted egg, snacks, and cleaning detergent, and the bags have been distributed to 1,000 families in Klong Toey community, in which many people, from small children to elders, reside, as well as those who are unwell and unable to take care of themselves. This group has been gravely affected by this difficult situation and needs support. We have worked with Father Alex from the Xaverian Missionaries Klong Toey, and Apostleship of the Sea, Bangkok, who have been offering support to the people of Klong Toey over the past seven years, to distribute the relief kits to those affected as soon as possible so they can get through this crisis. Many of them are not able to go to work as normal and cannot earn money to support themselves and their families.”

“Our second mission was to help healthcare professionals at King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital of the Thai Red Cross Society, who have been working tirelessly to help those infected by the novel coronavirus, so that they can be healthy again. N95 masks, surgical masks, cloth masks, food and beverages have been offered to doctors and nurses to recognize their efforts as they fight a great battle for our country. Our third mission was to reduce the cost of living for the people of Thailand. During this pandemic, many people have been directly and indirectly affected in terms of income - some have lost their sources of income entirely while many have taken pay cuts. Tops and Family Mart have joined forces with the Ministry of Commerce to help reduce their burden by locking prices of products in the second phase. Necessary everyday items in every category are offered at locked prices, including seasoning products, cooking oil, packed rice, fresh and dried ingredients, cleaning products, household products, and baby products. This is to help people save their budget while still having access to quality products, to help everyone get through the COVID-19 situation together. Central Food Retail Group will continue to operate with social responsibility and commitment to quality services. With unity and support from everyone in the country, we will get through this crisis together.
