The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET), together with Phatra Securities pcl and Bank of America Merrill Lynch, announce the overwhelming success of “Thailand Focus 2012 - Positioning Thailand for the Next Growth Phase,” during August 29-31, reinforcing the attractiveness of the Thai capital market and economy to investors from around the globe and boosting the visibility of Thai listed companies to foreign fund managers.

SET President Charamporn Jotikasthira, said: “This event was greatly successful, attracting historic high number of 122 foreign institutional investors and 89 Thai listed companies and an equivalent of 1,065 meetings. In addition, it was the first time that listed firms from four Indochina stock exchanges and top executives of the four bourses joining in the event.”

The three-day program highlighted investment opportunities and the potential of Thailand’s economy and listed companies. Under the theme “Positioning Thailand for the Next Growth Phase,” the event focused on two aspects. Firstly, the “Next Growth Phase” presents key opportunities for Thai listed firms that perform exceptionally well regardless of the volatile economic situations in other regions, especially in term of liquidity and profitability, combining with many new key government policies on infrastructure development that should strengthen the economic outlook and profitability of listed companies even further.

Another aspect in the theme is “Positioning” referring to Thailand’s location at the center of ASEAN and Indochina regions that have high growth potential where SET has been functioning as the major fundraising source for Thai listed companies to expand into the region. By improving listing rules, such as listing regulations for holding companies, Thai listed cooperation expanding into the regional level will benefit from such improvement even further. Also the cooperation among exchanges in the region will certainly benefit listed companies in the region as can be vindicated by the participation of the regional exchanges.

Phatra Securities’s CEO Aphinant Klewpatinond said: “As we enter the second day of Thailand Focus Conference, I am proud to say that we have received numerous positive feedbacks regarding the content and the format of the conference so far. As Thailand becomes a focal point for expansion into Indochina, we are offering investors an opportunity to discover the strategic challenges facing Thailand's listed companies, but also a chance to understand how they plan to capitalize on the opportunities. We have set up in total 5 site visits, Global Supply Chain Tour, Retail Tour, Property Tour, CPF Shrimp Farm Tour and Khon Kaen and Udon Thani Tour, so that investors can choose the program that best matches with their interest. We have already had a successful day at the Global Supply Chain Tour, with clients visiting key industrial estates such as Hemaraj Eastern SeaBoard Industrial Estate, Ticon Industrial Logic Warehouse, Somboon Advance Technology factory site. We hope that the next 4 site visits for August 31st will receive the same positive feedbacks.”

Bank of America Merrill Lynch’s Head of Thailand Investment Banking Asadej Kongsiri said “The Thai stock market is one of the world’s best performing in the year to date. More than ever, global investor focus is centered on the ASEAN region, attracted by strong economic growth, promising demographics and growing domestic demand,”
