KTAM turns crisis into opportunity launches ESET50, an ETF that tracks SET50 Index, to attract Thai and foreign investors.

Khun Somchai Boonnamsiri, Chief Executive Officer of Krung Thai Asset Management PCL. (KTAM), announced the launch of KTAM SET50 ETF Tracker: ESET50, the exchange-traded fund in Thailand that tracks SET50 Index. The fund’s IPO period is 6-14 March 2014 with registered fund size of 2,000 million Baht and minimum investment of 10,000 Baht (multiple of 10,000 Baht). The fund’s policy is to invest in stocks of the companies that are constituents of SET50 Index. The first trade date in the Stock Exchange of Thailand will be on 26 March 2014 with the ticker: ESET50.

The fund not only offers investors exposure to top 50 stocks in the Stock Exchange of Thailand and to obtain return that links to the movement of SET50 Index before expenses, KTAM, together with Asia Plus Securities PCL., the fund’s market maker, has designed the fund to attract the institutional and foreign investors by providing closer Bid-Offer Spread to the SET50 and set the total fund expense at the lower level than foreign and domestic funds with the similar investment policy at 0.30% per annum, to provide liquidity for the fund and higher returns from lower expenses for investors.

SET50 Index consists of 50 stocks that are listed in the Stock Exchange of Thailand. Currently, the index consists of top 50 companies with high market capitalization and high liquidity which as of February 2014 contributes to around 73.98% of the SET Index and provided 3.38% dividend yield to the holders. With the reduction in political tension in the nation, KTAM sees a perfect timing for investors to invest in SET50 stocks at the comparatively low price and foresees an opportunity to invest ESET50 and Sector ETFs in a portfolio with Core/Satellite Strategy.
