TMC signs the first RFID technology licensing Ready to expand Animal ID chip market in Thailand

General Press Releases Wednesday October 25, 2006 11:04
Technology Management Center (TMC) granted the first and only license of RFID microchip for animal tagging to Silicon Crafts Technology Co.,Ltd.

Upon receiving the license from TMC, Silicon Crafts Technology has produced 60,000 RFID microchips for animal ear tags, and has conducted a test on data storage, food safety, food tracing, farm management, and management of logistics using RFID technology.   Results of the tests proved the RFID technology to be highly applicable to cattle owners.

Prof.Dr.Chachanat Theptaranon, Director of Technology Management Center (TMC) said that TMC supports and promotes licensing of technologies and applications of research projects for the benefits of Thai SMEs. Technology licensing from TMC would help adding value to products and services, reducing imported content, and make Thai SMEs more competitive in the world market. Licensing of RFID technology is one step for the   development of Thai industry.

“Technology Licensing Office (TLO), a unit of TMC was responsible for negotiating   the terms and conditions of the RFID microchip licensing,” Prof.Dr.Chachanat said.

RFID microchip for animal tagging is the essential part of animal ear tags, as well as injectable glass tags for to keep track of cattle, pigs, dogs, cats, and even fish. RFID chips render paper tags obsolete. It is also more convenient for users to read and write animal data immediately.   Using animal ID tag is essential for efficiency of farm management and quality control for export.

Technology Management Center (TMC) has many technologies and research projects ready for technology transfer and licensing to the private sector for commercialization.

Parties interested in RFID microchip technology for animal tagging from Silicon Crafts Technology and in need of other technologies could contact Technology Licensing Office (TLO), a unit of Technology Management Center (TMC) at Thailand Science Park, Klong Luang, Pathumthani, Tel. 0-2564-7000 or http://www.tmc.nstda.or.th
