USNS Walter S. Diehl and Unithai Shipyard collaborates with US Navy League in helping Thai communities

USNS Walter S. Diehl and Unithai Shipyard have joined hands with the US Navy League in improving local community relations, organising and participating in activities being held while American naval vessels are berthed for maintenance at the shipyard.

The US Navy maintains a policy of having ship crews devote time to worthy charitable activities while their vessels are in port in foreign countries. US Navy personnel make donations to the underprivileged or visit facilities for the physically and mentally handicapped.

On this occasion, the USNS Walter S. Diehl personnel brought items for donating to the Karunyawej House for the Disabled and the House of Aged in Banglamung in Chonburi province, and toys for the orphans at Baan Huay Khom in Chiang Mai province. The toys will be delivered to representatives of the home visiting Chonburi.

Moreover, representatives of the USNS Walter S. Diehl, US Navy League and Unithai visited Karunyawej House for the Disabled and the House of Aged on November 17 to distribute the donated items and help out further with electrical maintenance and repairing some wheelchairs.

“Unithai welcomes the opportunity to work with the US Navy in its operational needs and also to demonstrate the concern it shares for the well-being of our nearby communities”, Khun Teerapon Udomkanjananan, Operation Director of Unithai Shipyard and Engineering Limited said.
