The survey also found that more than 50% of respondents are not confident about securing a job from June 2010 onwards while only 5% of respondents indicated job prospects in their industry will be better. The result of all this, according to the majority of respondents is due to the recent political turmoil in Thailand.
Even with more than 50% decline in recruitment, the majority of respondents still believed that there is some time to go before the national economy hits rock bottom. The only industries in demand for jobs are Sales/Marketing, Financial, Computer/IT, Customer Service, and Food & Beverage; which signals the economy is relatively stable.
“Comparing with the first quarter in 2010, it’s clear that the political and economic situation has impacted the recruitment and employment industry. From the survey, we noticed that the hiring rate has dropped 20% and retrenchment rate has raised 19% from March to June.
With the decline in hiring and more competition, it means that jobseekers really need to be well prepared to even secure an interview,” stated Ms. Tanaporn Satitpunwaycha, Country Manager of JobStreet (Thailand).
