Australia Day: Celebrate what’s great!

The Australian Embassy recently hosted a reception to celebrate Australia Day at “The Residence” at the Grand Hyatt Erawan Hotel. More than 650 guests representing the full spectrum of the Australia-Thailand bilateral relationship attended the function.

Distinguished guests included Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban; Privy Councillor Mom Rajawongse Thepkamol Devakula; Privy Councillor Atthaniti Disatha-Amnarj; President of the National Assembly of Thailand and Speaker of the House of Representatives Chai Chidchob; Former Supreme Commander General Saiyud Kerdphol AO,Police General Chavalit Yodmani AO, Members of Parliament, Senators, senior bureaucrats and industry representatives.

In his message, Australian Ambassador to Thailand, James Wise, said Australia Day is a time to reflect on Australia in the broader global community and important relationships, including with Thailand.

“Thailand and Australia have broad and deep relations built over almost 60 years of formal diplomatic ties. In government, business, education, tourism, the arts and academia, Australians and Thais have developed rewarding relationships.” said Ambassador in his message.

A highlight of the evening was the creative and distinctly Australian cuisine, prepared under the masterful guidance of the Grand Hyatt Erawan’s Australian Executive Chef, Lucas Glanville. The fresh foods and drinks were sourced from all over Australia, including South Australian kingfish and Pacific yellow fin tuna, Tasmanian Atlantic salmon, Queensland avocados, Pacific Oysters “Kilpatrick”, Australian beef, a selection of Australian flavored ice creams and a wide range of Australian fine wine, cheese and fresh tropical fruits.

All guests received a box of homemade macarons.
