INTERCONTINENTAL BANGKOK CO-HOST WINE DINNER WITH D’ARENBERG AT FIREPLACE GRILL AND BAR

Friday 11 September 2015 14:27
With their latest event, to be held on 18th September, InterContinental Bangkok will show the world that when the hotel hosts a wine dinner it does so in style, this time with one of the most significant wineries in South Australia's McLaren Vale, d'Arenberg. The wine selection, seven different varieties in total, will be paired with yet another of Chef Sabastian's magnificent menus.

"This fabulous wine," says Chef Sebastian, "is matched with an equally splendid menu that carefully complements the wine." To add to the dining experience, Mr. Toby Porter, Wine Ambassador from d'Arenberg, will be on hand to explain the wines to the guests.

To be held at InterContinental Bangkok's Fireplace Grill and Bar, the wine dinner, which will cost THB 3,998++ per person, will begin with a refreshing foie gras mousse, served with the first of the wines, the d 'Arenberg Dadd Sparkling Brut Chardonnay Pinot Noir, the winery's premier DADD sparkling white, sourced from the coolest parts of the Adelaide Hills. Full flavored, it has a rich and creamy cuvee with sparkle and finesse. Next on the menu is the filet of sole, served with pan-fried scallop and pumpkin puree, and topped with lemon grass-infused white wine sauce. This will be accompanied by the 2012 d' Arenberg The Broken Fishplate Sauvignon Blanc, known for its beautiful balance and flavor.

Other courses include a delicious roast chicken dish, served with the 2013 d'Arenberg The Witches Berry McLaren Chardonnay; filet of lamb, paired with the 2009 d'Arenberg The Laughing Magpie; and a scrumptious dessert of blackcurrant cream, pear confit with praline rose and lime sherbet, complemented by the decadent 2014 d'Arenberg The Noble Riesling, oozing with sweet marmalade, raisin and honeysuckle flavors. The perfect end to a perfect evening.

Today, the d'Arenberg winery comprises more than 345 acres, with vintage starting from early February to June. Francis d'Arenberg, best known as "d'Arry", is the owner, with fourth generation Chester Osborn Chief Wine Maker since 1984. The highly respected d'Arenberg winery first became the property of the Osborn family back in 1912, when teetotaller and director of Thomas Hardy and Sons, Joseph Osborn purchased the 25-hectace Milton Vineyards now known as McLaren Vale. It has now been in the family for four generations, with some of the original vines still providing fruit today, and bearing the backbone of the winery's premium wines. Joseph's son, Frank, extended the vineyard to 78 hectares, and soon there were wines produced in ever increasing quantities for distribution to Europe. Frank's son, Francis d'Arenberg Osborn, named in honour of his mother who died giving birth to him, decided to launch his own label named after his mother. It was a humble start, but the wines gained immediate cult status amongst imbibers and judges. By the 1970s, d'Arenberg wines had become hugely fashionable, having gained a significant national and international profile in less than 20 years. More recently, d'Arenberg vintages were presented with Australian Gourmet Traveller Wine's 2015 Cellar Door with Best Food award, USA Wine and Spirits Magazine's 2015 Value Brand of the Year award and, last but not least, the 2015 Best Sweet White Wine Trophy for the Noble Wrinkled Riesling 2011 by the Royal Sydney Wine Show.
