Apollo (Thailand) Co. Ltd., a leader in the Thai lubricant oils business under the brands "IDEMITSU" and "DAPHNE", has announced it is to be the co-sponsor of the Optimist World Championship 2017. Thailand has been selected to host the Optimist World Championship 2017 at the Royal Varuna Yacht Club (RVYC) in Pattaya, and the event has now confirmed the participation of a total of 62 sailing nations. Each country will send their most skilled Optimist sailors to race as national representatives on this world stage, competing in the waters off Pattaya Beach with the best Thailand has to offer in young sailing talent. The event will take place from 11-21 July, 2017 and features 280 sailors, a record number.

Apollo (Thailand) Co. Ltd., has identified sailing as a 'crystal clear green sport' powered by nature's elements, and therefore having no negative impact on the environment. Moreover this sport offers social responsibility advantages through its activities that help Thai youth spend their time wisely, and to grow to be the professional sportsmen and women of the future. These elements correspond to the Apollo (Thailand) policy on society and environment, namely a commitment to cooperative social responsibilities, pollution reduction and the continual improvement of environmental conditions.

Chakris Wahawisan, D.B.A. President of Apollo (Thailand) Co., Ltd. said, "This is the first time that Apollo (Thailand) has sponsored the sport of sailing. Our participation is part of our ongoing promise on our vision to move towards industrial development with consciousness and business accountability, social responsibility and environmental protection. The Optimist World Championship is a great showcase for the world's most talented young sailors, and it's also an opportunity for young sailors in Thailand to see the different tactics employed by sailors on the world stage and develop themselves to be the professional sportsmen and women of the future. Sailing is a green sport which aligns with Apollo's business policy that commits to reducing pollution and the continual improvement of environmental conditions. Moreover, to host this event is a great honor for us to support the beloved sport of HM the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej who is an inspiration for many Thai athletes across a great many disciplines."

Thomas Whitcraft, President of the Optimist World Championship 2017, said, "I would like to express my thanks to Apollo (Thailand) for the excellent and enthusiastic support of the Optimist World Championship 2017. The event provides an inspiration for young Thais to take up sailing and stimulate the development of Optimist sailing in Thailand to international standards."

The Championship will be held at the Royal Varuna Yacht Club, located just outside the city of Pattaya in the residential area of Pratamnak Hill. The racing area is located immediately offshore from the Yacht Club in the Gulf of Thailand, between the mainland and island Koh Larn. The RVYC is the center of sailing in Thailand with experience gained from hosting many world class events.
