  • LANGKAWI SET TO STAGE EPIC WEEKEND OF COMPETITION

Following the successful inaugural Federation Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) Beach Volleyball World Tour -- Langkawi Open last year, Langkawi is set to welcome the return of the tour in 2018. Promoted and organised by E-Plus Global Sdn Bhd, this year's edition will take place from 26 to 29 April 2018 at Pantai Cenang with another exciting men's and women's contest over the four days of competition.

"E-Plus is excited to welcome the international FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour back to our shores for a second year running. Taking cue from the success of the inaugural edition in 2017, we are looking forward to continue elevating our capabilities and building on the growing appeal of the sport in the region," notes Andrew Ching, Chief Executive Officer of E-Plus Global Sdn Bhd.

With the FIVB as the governing body for the Olympic sport of Volleyball, the Malaysian event is part of the World Tour 1-Star (WT1) tournament. After Langkawi, the tour will move to Manila, Philippines and Bangkok, Thailand.

Regarded as a boost for the continued development of beach volleyball in Malaysia, Datuk Benny Hoe, President of Malaysia Association (MAVA) comments, "It is gratifying that FIVB has continued to entrust us to host this world class Beach Volleyball World Tour. More importantly, it is a massive boost in our efforts towards the development of Malaysia's own home-grown talents."

With Langkawi again at the centre of sporting attention, Dato' Haji Azizan Noordin, Chief Executive Officer of the Langkawi Authority Development (LADA) adds, "We are extremely excited to welcome both fans and competitors back to the picturesque location of Pantai Cenang for the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour. Having this international competition here for a second successive year is a boost to our global tourism promotion efforts and in contributing towards generating a robust micro-economic activity around these events."

The competition will kick off with the single elimination qualifiers before entering the group phase on Friday, 27 April. The round of 12 and quarterfinals is scheduled on Saturday, 28 April with the semi-final and medals-determining finals taking place on Sunday, 29 April.
