THEO MIO TO STAGE TASTING OF ORGANIC WINES FROM AUSTRIA

Wednesday 12 December 2018 17:39
Theo Mio, the Italian kitchen at InterContinental Bangkok, is to stage on Friday 21 December a tasting of organic wines produced by the Johannes Zillinger Winery of Austria, which has been operating organically for more than thirty years.

The evening will provide the opportunity to meet Johannes Zillinger himself, who will describe how the vineyard protects and nurtures the vines without resorting to the use of pesticides and herbicides.

Held between 19.00 to 21.00pm, the evening will feature a tasting of three wines at Baht 300++ per glass, 1,500++ baht per bottle, or a flight of all three wines at Baht 500++.

Along with the wines is the opportunity to match them with a suggested food pairing.

A serving of insalata di indivia, a salad of endives, Gorgonzola, pear, walnuts and a mustard dressing, priced at Baht 375++ is suggested to accompany the 2016 Weissburgunder Reflexion. As a suitable match for the 2015 Fume Blanc Numen, a suggested food pairing is linguine con granchio, with jumbo crabmeat, chilli, garlic and lemon zest topping the pasta, priced at Baht 500++ and 750++. A dish of dentice bianco arrosto, a combination of white snapper, clams, saffron and roast fennel, priced at 695 baht, is suggested for the 2015 Gruener Veltliner Numen.

Sponsoring company for the event is Wine Garage.

Johannes Zillinger's family winery is based in Weinviertel and has been operating organically since the 1980s. His father Hans was a pioneer of sustainable farming and started working organically long before it became common practice in Austria.
