SACICT to showcase Thailand’s masterpieces of arts and crafts at the 10th Identity of Siam

The SUPPORT Arts and Crafts International Centre of Thailand or SACICT aiming to foster a sense of belonging in Thai handicrafts for Thai people to pass on to next generations will showcase the masterpieces of arts and crafts at the 10th Identity of Siam expo. The expo will be held from January 31st to February 3rd, 2019 at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre.

Out of more than 300 name lists of the master artisans, the master craftsman and craftsmen descendants nominated from all over the country, only the most outstanding ones meeting all criteria will be selected and praised as Thailand's top the master artisans, the master craftsman and craftsmen descendants of 2019 and their works of arts will be presented at the expo.

Amparwon Pichalai, SACICT's chief executive said "With the passing of time, some Thai traditional handicrafts have disappeared and others are disappearing.

Therefore, Bang Sai Royal Folk Arts and Crafts Centre and SACICT has continually organized the event since 2009 to commend Thailand's the master artisans, the master craftsman and craftsmen descendants throughout the land as a way to honour and value their knowledge and experience for helping protect and treasure national heritage and local wisdom from generation to generation in order to ensure that they continue to be kept alive. The next generation seeing the value of traditional artisan products can also be inspired and will keep on preserving the folk wisdom handing it down to the next. The new generation might update the art form by developing new designs to keep up with contemporary trends adding more value to the traditional products."

"With regard to a process of selecting master artisans, master craftsmen and craftsmanship descendants of 2019, there are 300 name lists nominated from all over the country. All possess exceptional skill and experience from various types of crafting, such as weaving, paper crafts, wooden crafts, clay crafts, metalwork, wickerwork, etc. A group of committee consisting of the experts from various crafting branches have worked really hard every year to find out the most skilful artisans who own the true knowledge of local wisdom reflecting through their impressive arts and crafts.

The final selected the master artisans, the master craftsman and craftsmen descendants of 2019 will be awarded and their masterpieces will be showcased for everyone to witness Thailand amazing heritage at the 10th Identity of Siam expo which will be held from January 31st to February 3rd, 2019 at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre."
