First showcase of Fiber Arts by Taiwanese artists in Thailand, plus variety of craft workshops, at Chiang Mai Design Week 2019

Bangkok--4 Dec--The Bureau of Cultural Heritage

The Bureau of Cultural Heritage, Ministry of Culture, is pleased to present "Taiwan Heritage: Treasure of Taiwan'", a special exhibition of fiber art from Taiwan considered as Taiwanese national treasures. On display will be rare items made with ancient craft techniques as well as contemporary pieces, ranging from bamboo basketry to lacquerware, rush weaving, bamboo weaving, dyeing, Chinese knot , Chinese silk tapestry and embroidery.

The exhibition opening will take place on Sudnay, December 8th , 2019, at 3:00 p.m. at the 2nd floor of Chiang Mai City Arts & Culture Centre. The highlights of this event are the Master Workshops offered by Thai and Taiwanese craft masters. Each workshop is limited to 25 participants.

  • Saturday, December 7, 2:00-6:00 p.m.: Nature Dyeing and Pattern: Design in Nature Dyeing, a natural dyeing demonstration by Chen, cning-lin from Taiwan and Arpanat Nilyaganont from Thailand
  • Sunday, December 8, 2:00-6:00 p.m.: Electric Embroidery Pattern Design, a demonstration of machine and hand embroidery by Ying-Ling Chang from Taiwan and Asst. Prof. Dr. Vitawan Chunthone and Asst. Prof. Rapee Leelasiri from Thailand
  • Monday, December 9, 2:00-6:00 p.m.: International Art Curation Experience, a printmaking demonstration by Jimmy Chang from Taiwan and Namfon Laistrooglai from Thailand

There is also Taiwan craft demonstration and experience workshop hold from December 7th to December 15th at Chiang Mai historic Center. All are from Taiwanese national craft preservers, including Bamboo weaving, Rush weaving, lacquerware making, Chinese silk tapestry weaving, Chinese knot and embroidery. Each experience workshop is limited to 15 participants.

The event also features other craft activities by Taiwanese artists. The Bureau of Cultural Heritage is responsible for the maintenance and restoration of historic buildings, sites, communities, ancient monuments and objects, and cultural landscapes as well as for the conservation of traditional arts, folk traditions and cultural heritage. This exhibition is part of the Chiang Mai Design Week 2019, organized November 7-15, 2019. All are from Taiwanese national craft preservers, including Bamboo weaving, Rush weaving, lacquerware making, Chinese silk tapestry weaving, Chinese knot and embroidery. Each experience workshop is limited to 15 participants.

Interested persons can join the workshops every day, at 1:00-4:00 p.m. and 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the Chiang Mai Historical Centre, located on Phra Pokklao Rd in Si Phum Sub-district, Mueang Chiang Mai District, Chiang Mai.
