Mr. Shinji Suenaga, President of YANMAR S.P. Co., Ltd., stated that the cooperation between Yanmar and BAAC resulted from recognizing the importance of providing support for Thai youth and Thai farmers’ children who have excellent academic potential but lack financial support for their education. The cooperation, represented in the MOU, is a continuation of the pre-existing local sport community grant for Thai youth campaign that has been held annually by Yanmar and partners, over many years.

“For our part, YANMAR aims to continue our pre-existing campaign, the Yanmar- BAAC Football Clinic”, by providing scholarship grants through the Yamaoka Scholarship Foundation (YSF) to 15 grantees for their lower secondary (Mathayom 1-3) study or an amount of baht 1,080,000 per year. The grant scheme covers all regions in Thailand. As for BAAC, the Bank works in cooperation with YANMAR to hold related activities in its regional branches. The campaign will be publicized through the branches as well as the radio programs produced by the Bank,” said Mr. Suenaga.

Yanmar’s President also revealed that the “Local Sport Community Grant for Youth”, first held in 2013 and now in its 8th year, aims to supporting financially-challenged Thai youth who have academics potential and a passion for football to ensure an equal opportunity to compete with other children from other areas. So far, the campaign has been run in Chiang Mai, Nakhon Ratchasima, Surin, Phitsanulok, Sakon Nakhon, Chaiyaphum, Udon Thani, Ubon Ratchathani, and Nan. To date, the total number of Thai youths who have participated in the campaign is over 3,300. Participants who demonstrate good football skills have a chance to be recruited to train with coaches from leading football clubs and may also be offered the chance to join Cerezo Osaka in Japan and BG Pathum United Football Club as official football players.

“Throughout the past 8 years, as part of this campaign YANMAR has funded scholarships from the Yamaoka Foundation to 120 children, worth total of 8,640,000 baht. Some of the children have since achieved their dreams of becoming professional footballers in renowned football clubs. This is thus regarded as one of our campaigns to realize the dream of Thai youth who want an access to sport and an opportunity for training with coaches from leading football clubs,” said Mr. Suenaga.

Apart from the purpose shared by Yanmar and BAAC to better the quality of life of Thai farmers, the campaign also represents a form of educational support through sport for financially deprived children who have sport skills to gain an equal access to both education and sport opportunities.
