Win Posh Gadgets with GM Thailand Facebook

Tuesday 23 November 2010 11:24
General Motors Thailand has recently launched its social media initiative via various Facebook pages to engage with customers, dealers and employees in a more interactive way. The pages will feature the carmaker’s news updates, photos, events and views. It will also feature games and competitions in which participants can win an iPhone4 or iPad. Starting this November is “C Cruze, Mark the Spot” competition which fans can join by simply taking a random photo of Cruze on the road during Cruze Trooper around town and big cities.

Ms. Sasinan Allmand, Director — Public Relations for GM Thailand/ASEAN said, “Our social media initiative is a part of our Public Relations strategy to focus on more effective ways to reach our stakeholders — both internal and external. Social media allows almost instant interaction and engagement with our stakeholders. Speed is everything in the fast-paced world we live in today, and the faster we can get to our stakeholders, the better.”

She added, “It is important to realize where our customers are and to strategically reach out to them and build a favorable relationship with them. Taking into account an aggressively rising number of Social Media users over the years, and the instant and interactive nature of the medium, it is undeniable that Social Media would provide a great channel in creating and maintaining relationships between GM and Chevrolet Thailand and its audience. The Facebook page will soon be complemented by Youtube and Twitter.”

“This does not mean we’re shifting our focus from traditional to the new media. Traditional media is still a very important platform for us. There are things traditional media can do that social media can’t, and vice versa. Therefore, instead of looking at social media as a standalone initiative, we’re looking at it as an additional platform to existing outlets. I believe marketers call this ‘through-the-line’, which means communications is achieved via an integration of various platforms,” Ms. Allmand concluded.

The Facebook page: www.facebook.com/generalmotorsthailand or “GM Thailand” facebook will contain an interesting selection of GM’s corporate, product and technology-related materials in the form of news releases, discussions, notes, pictures and videos. Members can keep track of GM’s current assets/new vehicle updates and promotions, as well as join exclusive games and competitions to win exciting prizes. And November will be an exciting month, as GM and Chevrolet prepare for the launch of the Chevrolet CRUZE on the digital world with the fun competition “C Cruze, Mark the Spot”. From 24 November to 12 December, a Cruze will pop up at trendy lifestyle malls as well as on major streets in Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Phuket with hints of the locations dropped on Facebook a few days before the appearance. Facebook fans are encouraged to guess where the Cruze will pop up next and be there to snap a picture of Cruze. They can upload the photo onto GM Thailand Facebook (under ‘fan photos’ section). 2 persons whose photos receive the most ‘Like’ clicks will win an iPhone4, while the next 15 runners-up will get a cool Cruze limited edition ‘Responsive Mug’ or other Cruze premium gifts. Just click “LIKE” on GM Thailand’s facebook, contribute to the discussions and stand a chance to win some great prizes.
