Mr. Sermsakool Klaikaew, Governor of the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA), and Mr. Qiang Hua, Managing Director of Huawei Technologies (Thailand) Co., Ltd., recently jointly signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between PEA and Huawei Technologies (Thailand) to create the PEA Innovation Center. This event was held at Miracle Grand C Room, Miracle Grand Convention Hotel in Bangkok.

The PEA is partnering with Huawei (Thailand) to develop the PEA Innovation Center that will apply state-of-the-art ICT technologies to enhance efficiency and reliability of the electric power systems and services. It will greatly benefit the training of electric power ICT personnel and the spread of smart grid-related technologies in Thailand. The Center will also contribute to the research and incubation of electricity network systems for the future, in order to increase efficiency and reliability of the electric power backbone networks with environmental and social awareness, and to lower power consumption and reduce carbon emissions in Thailand.

This project, Thailand's first electricity innovation center, will be built on the 3rd floor, LED Building of PEA. It will serve as a research platform for new concepts and for testing innovations related to electric power. Combining ICT, electric power, as well as smart-grid-related technologies, it will provide various innovative applications, industry-leading equipment and tools in many areas to benefit learning and tests. An area will also be provided for knowledge and opinion exchange.

During the MoU signing ceremony, Mr. Sermsakool Klaikaew said "PEA has pledged to combine its rich experience of construction and operation in the electric power industry with Huawei's industry-leading ICT technologies and R&D capabilities to develop a comprehensive innovation platform integrating research and development in the areas of electric power communication, Internet of Things and cloud-related technologies and so on, to improve efficiency and make smarter networks in the future. In addition, the Center will also benefit the training of electric power ICT personnel and the spread of smart grid-related technologies in Thailand.

Moreover, this partnership will also aim to increase the stability of IP Network technology related to innovative projects such as electricity cloud computing, big data and charging facilities for electric vehicles, smart homes and demand-side response, in order to meet consumers' demand. This will be in line with PEA's policy for the development of human resources through innovation and operational performance through technology, aiming to respond to the PEA 4.0 era to become The Electric Utility of the Future.

"I am very pleased to finalize this framework of collaboration with our partners from the PEA," said Mr. Qiang Hua during the ceremony. "We would like to set a paradigm with the PEA that can serve as a model for and promote the development of the electric power industry for the country and the region. We are very proud to be partners in this great project where we will implement our commitment to work together to bring new concepts and innovations in electricity technology for the benefit of the Thai people."

"Huawei would like to thank Mr. Sermsakool and his team for this exemplary project," added Mr Qiang. "The future PEA Innovation Center will become another major milestone to better serve local needs, and we are confident that it will contribute greatly to the country's social and economic development, in line with the government's Thailand 4.0 policy."

This cooperation is just one among a number of initiatives that Huawei has been undertaking in Thailand, as an active member of the business community.
