  • Ookla, the company behind Speedtest is the global leader in internet performance and network diagnostics, has revealed that in the second half of 2018, AIS successfully maintained the fastest mobile network in Thailand for the fourth consecutive years.
  • With over 100 million users in 190 countries, Ookla has the most comprehensive analytics on worldwide internet performance and accessibility. Ookla is popular amongst Thais, with total downloads more than 5 million times and 3.87 million active users in Thailand in the last year.
  • Results of the latest testing, which was carried out in the second half of 2018, shows AIS as having the fastest mobile network in Thailand. In addition, AIS had the fastest mobile network in Bangkok, the city with the highest internet connectivity rate. The speed testing was measured among mobile phone users in Thailand who carried out more than 7 million tests during the 6 months from July to December 2018. These results maintain AIS as the leader in mobile network performance for the fourth consecutive year from 2015 - 2018. • These consecutive awards underline the success of AIS in becoming the leader in mobile network and digital services in Thailand as well as its strong determination to constantly develop the best network for Thais. The Ookla ranking reflects the reliability of this efficient network for optimum download and upload speeds. The AIS network also has the lowest latency among all other providers.
Ookla Speedtest, the global leader in internet performance testing applications, was founded in 2006 and is considered in Thailand as having the greatest reliability.
1. Today, Ookla Speedtest is available in 17 languages with users in 190 countries.
2. Ookla Speedtest applications have had more than 190 million downloads via App Store and Google Play Store.
3. In Thailand, more than 7 million users have tested the internet speed using Ookla Speedtest apps.
4. Since its founding, users worldwide have tested the internet speed using Ookla Speedtest apps more than 22 billion times or around 10 million times a day.
5. Ookla Speedtest has the global testing server infrastructure with more than 7,900 servers.

6. Ookla Speedtest is the only internet speed testing provider offering the most accurate and reliable way to measure the speed score of internet services. Each network carrier is required to have at least a 3% sample of population in each location in order to get the most accurate outcome. The samples each represent a large population segment reflecting real internet speeds. Others often use inadequate samples to represent country populations, and some internet testing providers fail to identify sources of data and the clear number of samples.

Mr. Pratthana Leelapanang, AIS's Chief Consumer Business Officer, said: "The key goal of AIS is our determination to develop the best network. Today, we have the biggest band spectrum of 120 MHz (60 MHz x2) and the ability to develop network technology in the future and strengthen Thailand's telecommunication infrastructure. In addition, AIS provides AIS NEXT G, which is the fastest network in Southeast Asia; AIS 4.5G and AIS 4G ADVANCED to accommodate advanced technologies MIMO 4x4 with CA, 256 QAM, LAA (Licensed Assisted Access), FDD Massive MIMO 32T 32R; and AIS SUPER WiFi, which covers nearly 100,000 access points nationwide. These networks will help enhance the lives and meet the needs of Thais in all dimensions. We are delighted to win the Thailand Fastest Mobile Network Award from –Ookla

Speedtest in 2018 and be ranked the leader for the fourth consecutive year. This is a guarantee of quality from a leading global organization that provides the most accurate, transparent and reliable speed test. On behalf of all its staff, AIS is committed to develop quality of networks and deliver the best digital experiences to over 40 million customers of AIS nationwide".

Mr. Doug Suttles, CEO of Ookla, added: "Congratulations to AIS for winning the 2018 Fastest Mobile Network Speedtest Award for the Q3–Q4 award period! This Award recognizes AIS's commitment to delivering fast speeds to their customers across Thailand.

Speedtest Intelligence(R) data is comprised of millions of consumer-initiated tests performed on web and mobile Speedtest platforms. All providers in Thailand are represented in Speedtest Intelligence data, with significant volumes of tests nationwide. We can confirm that Speedtest Intelligence data supports the award for "Thailand's Fastest Mobile Network."

Speedtest Awards for top providers in speed are determined using a Speed Score that incorporates a measure of each provider's download and upload speed to rank network speed performance. To determine Speedtest(R) Award winners for mobile networks, Ookla assesses the average of test results taken using Modern Devices. Modern Devices includes all mobile tests, regardless of connection technology used, as long as they are taken on devices that are identified as being capable of achieving the fastest speeds available in a market. After this filtering has taken place, Speed Score is applied as outlined above to determine the best speeds available in a country. Each top carrier accounts for at least 3% of the sample size in the geographic area.

The Speedtest Award acknowledged in this document, as well as the reports contained within the Speedtest Intelligence Portal, represent Ookla's view of our data using the science and methodologies that go into benchmarking networks. Our methodologies are widely and often accepted as the global industry standard and we stand behind AIS's award." Mr. Suttles said.
