Students from Mahanakorn University and KMITL to Compete in Global Final for Thailand in China

Huawei, a leading global provider of information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure and smart devices, has announced the three winners of the Huawei ICT Skill Competition Thailand National Finals. Ms Purin Tibkaew, a 3rd year student from Mahanakorn University won the top prize, while Mr Nattaporn Pornsawat and Mr Gun Taechosagonde, both from King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL), came in second and third, respectively.

The first Huawei ICT Competition in Thailand under the theme Connection - Glory - Future, attracted over 2,000 students from across the country when it was launched last September. In partnership with local universities, Huawei's aim was to promote a greater understanding of and interest in ICT, and cultivate ICT talent among the youth. In February this year, the top 200 students who made it to the second round took part in the Huawei Camp Thailand Competition to undergo intensive training and testing for Huawei Certified ICT Associate – Routing and Switching (HCIA-R&S), and discover the latest ICT technology. They were given the opportunity to demonstrate their acquired skills in designing computer networks.

The three winners will form the team that will represent Thailand at the Global Final, which will be held in Shenzhen, China from May 25 to 26. Teams from over 30 other countries will also be vying for the grand prizes. To prepare for the final round, the Thai team will be training at the Huawei Center in Bangkok, to develop their ICT skills and give them a better chance of bringing home the top prize.

"Seeing over 2,000 students from all over Thailand during the initial stage of the competition simply proves that the youth is interested in ICT infrastructure including networking. This is highly encouraging, because in order for the country to stay competitive, we must constantly incubate a new pool of high-quality ICT talents to support digital transformation," said Dr. Pansak Siriruchatapong. Vice Minister for Digital Economy and Society during his keynote speech.

Mr. Thomas Zhou, Director of Public Affairs and Communication, Huawei Southeast Asia, spoke of innovation and technology being at the core of Huawei's business. "ICT infrastructure will be as important as water and power supply systems. ICT talent is an integral part in the process of building an intelligent Thailand. We will deepen our cooperation with universities and government agencies about ICT talent development in the future," he said. "I encourage you to focus more on teamwork, work with full dedication, and lastly, get a breakthrough and gain honor for Thailand."

As a responsible corporate citizen, Huawei launched the Developer Enablement Program for the SEA region in 2018 and plans to invest US$81 million in the next three years. In 2018, Huawei SEA developed over 8,000 ICT talents through its OpenLabs, ICT training, scholarships, competitions, and Seeds for the Future.

First place winner Ms Purin said, "This is a dream come true for us. This competition has allowed us to discover the limitless possibilities offered by the world of ICT, and it is truly inspiring. I am looking forward to working with Nattaporn Pornsawat and Gun Taechosagonde, and to do our best in Shenzhen. This will be an exciting challenge for us to compete for the championship at the Global Final, and to make friends with students from different countries. We are fortunate to be a part of it."

The three Grand Final winners each received a Huawei plaque, a Huawei smartphone and other prizes. The top 10 winners will be granted internship and job opportunities at Huawei, as well as a tour of Huawei Thailand office and the Huawei OpenLab. During the team's trip to Shenzhen, China, in May, they will visit Huawei Headquarters and mingle with some of the world's best ICT experts and accumulate knowledge on the latest ICT technology, industry trends and products.
