Huawei unveils 5G trend in Thailand, aims to build ecosystem revolutionizing industry

Huawei Technologies (Thailand) Co., Ltd. revealed that Thailand is one of 5G technology leaders in ASEAN, and the 5G ecosystem will help create new business opportunities from quality and model of new services. Additionally, by utilizing application and new services that come with future high-speed network, 5G will also help to revive the tourism and hospitality sector that is severely affected by COVID-19 pandemic.

Delivering insights at the seminar titled '5G Ecosystem and the Future of Thailand’, Mr. Abel Deng, CEO of Huawei Technologies (Thailand) Co., Ltd., said, “Thailand has a lot of potential to implement 5G technology. Most significantly, 5G technology will be the key driving force to recover the Thai economy and drive new economic and societal growth for the country in every aspect. With the 5G ecosystem, it will not just serve the individual but the whole Digital Society. 5G network will play an important role to increase productivity, reduce expenditure, and improve the quality of products and service. And the mission of Huawei Thailand is to grow with the country, we are committed to support Thailand in its utilization of 5G network to support Thai businesses. The country is one of the early adopters in ASEAN with 5G technology and is already advanced in 5G technology with strong implementation progress.”

Mr. Woragarn Likhitdechasakdi, Deputy Chief Technology Officer of Carrier Network, Huawei Technologies (Thailand) Co. Ltd., stated that the 5G ecosystem will consist of 4 key factors which are;

Business Mode Innovation: The 5G adoption will not be limited to only smartphone service, as the 5G ecosystem can generate new kind of services with more diversity. Apart from Business-to-Consumer service, 5G will be also adopted in Business-to-Business field.Local Ecosystem Integration: To build the most effective network that suits every industry, the ecosystem will need partners from all walks of various industries e.g. network operators, large and small entrepreneurs in vertical intra-industry, hardware and software vendors like Huawei, and local solution providers and integrators, etc.Real Use Cases: In 2020, 5G will become more concrete and affordable, moving beyond prove-of-concept testing or success case presentation, as many networks and solutions will be available for real usage and adoption across various fields.Global Best Practices: Having worked with many global operators and partners, Huawei can leverage its experience and achievement in other markets globally for localized adaptation in the Thai market.

“5G is “connectivity” while AI is an “intelligent”. When combine, they will provide an infinite possibility.   In the future, every industry will integrate Cloud, AI and Big Data with 5G technology, and being “smart” will be integrated into every aspect of business procedure, thereby creating Smart Manufacturing, Smart Healthcare, and even Smart City. These will improve business capabilities, help generate more profits, and pioneer new business opportunities,” Mr. Abel Deng added.

Mr. Woragarn said that new user-based experiences that come along with 5G can include Virtual Reality (VR), Augment Reality (AR), Cloud Gaming through the full-scale internet network, through live-streaming with 4K resolution, or through VR/AR, etc.

For business sector, 5G technology can provide better solutions for various industries including agriculture covering three areas:

In addition, 5G will also help improve Digital Society in Thailand, including the creation of a new standard for healthcare industry, support online education, and improve digital inequality to help facilitate nationwide access to digital resources. These enablers will improve Thailand’s basic infrastructure and elevate the country’s Digital Economy potential in agricultural, industrial, e-commerce, and tourism sectors, which are key drivers for Thailand’s economic recovery hit by COVID-19 challenges. Additionally, many nations are also currently undergoing digital technology integration to drive their economies.

“The tourism and hospitality industry, as one of the most essential sectors in Thailand, can be amplified through the utilization of 5G, especially during this challenging period. There are two main parts of the utilization in the industry which are for 'tourism promotion’ and 'building trust,” Mr. Woragarn added.

The utilization of 5G for Tourism Promotion

Instances of 5G implementation include environmental-friendly tour for experiencing smart agriculture. This will bring three levels of benefits to the farmers; by getting better quality of agricultural products, attracting more visitors to their smart farms, and gaining more income from bylined-agricultural products selling.

5G technology can boost domestic tourism through the development of new multimedia to provide more immersive experiences including partnering with famous YouTubers, content creators, and related agencies to create VR/AR content in order to promote tourist destinations, hotels and restaurants. This will enable new Unseen Thailand and distinctively travelling experiences for tourists, reinforcing the 'New Normal’ lifestyle and attracting more local visitors to domestic tourism.

The utilization of 5G for Building Trust

In terms of utilizing 5G technology to regain confidence in the tourism industry, Thailand has been implemented 5G technology to cope with COVID-19 during the past months. The technology included remote clinical services through Telemedicine, while AI solution speeds up the diagnosis process. With this advanced analysis solutions and efficiently leading medical personnel in this region enhancing the healthcare industry in Thailand. This also help reinforcing reliability to the country’s medical tourism.

“The 5G innovation will be able to enable “Smart Airport” that will enhance trustworthy to tourism and help Thailand to quickly resume being a local and global destinations,” Mr. Woragarn concluded.
