Thai Airways International Public Company Limited (THAI) together with the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) recently welcomed overseas delegates of the “Thailand Today” Mega Familiarization trip on their visit to Thailand during 12-16 July 2010. THAI and TAT have jointly invited over 500 travel agents and journalists worldwide to Thailand as part of a Mega Fam trip to showcase some of Thailand’s best tourism destinations and products. The event was organized as part the 50th anniversary celebrations of THAI and TAT.

A “Thailand Today” welcome reception was held at the Centara Grand & Bangkok Convention Center, chaired by H.E. Mr. Chumphol Silpa-archa, Thailand’s Minister of Tourism and Sports. Mr. Piyasvasti Amranand, THAI’s President and Mr. Suraphon Svetasreni, TAT’s Governor also attended the reception and welcomed guests and delegates from overseas.

Mr. Piyasvasti Amranand, THAI’s President, said that the THAI-TAT “Thailand Today” cooperative effort aims to boost tourism and air travel to and from Thailand on a global scale. As the Asian economy is expected to grow by 7% this year, with a global GDP growth expectation of 2.9%, Asia-Pacific carriers will continue to benefit from strong regional growth. As THAI enters its second half century, the Asia Pacific region is set to become the world’s fastest growing region for passenger and air cargo services. For the past half century, THAI has provided “Smooth as Silk” products and services to the international traveling public that continue to be tailored to customer needs, based on THAI customer value perception. It is THAI’s hope that the “Thailand Today” Mega Fam Trip will further build confidence in Thailand as the destination of choice, boost air travel and tourism from the rest of the world to and from Thailand, celebrate and reaffirm the long relationship of THAI and TAT with industry partners and friends throughout the past 50 years and continue in strength into the future.

Mr. Suraphon Svetasreni, TAT’s Governor, said that TAT and THAI are proud to have played a major role in making Thailand one of the world’s most popular destinations, well-regarded for the quality and variety of its tourist attractions, a premier shopping venue, and value-for-money products and services.

THAI, a member of Star Alliance, operates flights to 70 domestic and international destinations located in 35 countries across five continents.
