Jaaaetstar Asia became the first low fares carrier to operate on the Bangkok-Fukuoka route after flight 3K509 took to the skies early this morning.

Fukuoka, located in Kyushu, the third largest island in Japan, will become the second international destination for Jetstar Asia and the third international Japanese port for Jetstar joining Tokyo (Narita) and Osaka.

Jetstar Asia CEO Bara Pasupathi said the airline had seen strong bookings since announcing the route in February.

“We’re pleased with how the market is responding and all indications suggest it’s only going to grow in popularity as more travellers learn about the offering,” Mr Pasupathi said.

“Our bookings from Bangkok to Fukuoka are performing ahead of our expectations at this stage and it’s great to see so many Thai travellers snapping up our low fares.

Situated on the northern edge of Kyushu Island, Fukuoka is a vibrant city and convenient gateway to the rest of Japan.

Japan’s sixth largest city offers many attractions that have traditionally appealed to Southeast Asian leisure travellers, such as mountains and beautiful scenery, hot springs, food and culture.

Easy to navigate and with friendly locals, Fukuoka was ranked in global affairs magazine Monocle’s top 15 most liveable cities in 2012. Passengers wishing to visit another Japanese destination during their visit can fly to Narita, Chubu and Kansai from Fukuoka on Jetstar Japan’s domestic network.

The new daily service will be operated by Jetstar Asia’s 180-seat Airbus A320. To book flights, please visit Jetstar.com.

Jetstar Asia currently flies to Japan twice daily with its Singapore – Taipei – Osaka service and four times weekly with its Singapore – Manila – Osaka service.
