Each year in August the people of Thailand join together in celebration of the devotion and hard work our mothers give us. While showing your love should not, of course, be limited to just one day, the upcoming long weekend is a perfect opportunity to treat your mum to a holiday designed just for her.

To help you decide what kind of vacation your Mom deserves, Skyscanner has released the most popular destinations and searched locations for the upcoming Mother’s Day long weekend (9-12 August 2014).

According to Skyscanner Marketing Manager - Thailand, Ms. Grace Pobpabha Areerat, domestic travel remains on top of the list with Thailand in first place.

“From our data we think Thai people are looking to treat their Moms to a holiday to either relax and recuperate from the day-to-day running of the family, or reward and re-invigorate their sense of style and sophistication with a bit of shopping and world-class dining,” she said.

If your Mom is the type that enjoys luxurious resorts and long walks on the beach, then this year she won’t be disappointed with Samui, Phuket or Krabi (numbered 1st, 4th and 10th respectively). These destinations have it all - marvellous beaches, five star hotels, divine spas and treatments, and delicious food.

Or maybe your Mom is a shopaholic who loves fashion and big cities. Then check out Singapore (3rd place) or Hong Kong (6th place) which are perfect destinations for a shopping spree weekend to hit the Grand Sales and international designers.

Chiang Mai (5th place) or Bangkok (2nd place) will likely appeal to an artistic Mom who appreciates culture and history. With many art galleries and stylish cafés, these two cities offer unlimited inspiration for creative souls.

If your mum is a fan of Downton Abbey or likes to keep up with the movements of the Royal family and budget is less of a consideration then treat her to high tea, shopping on Oxford Street and a play in the West End in London (8th place).

For the business Mom who likes to keep up with the pace of the modern technologies: Tokyo (7th place) and Seoul (9th place) are places to go.
