The Tourism Authority of Thailand's (TAT) Loei Office in cooperation with Phu Kradueng National Park is organising the 'Phu Kradueng Wake up Run' that will take place from 30 September to 2 October, 2017.

Highlights include the run on 1 October, for which some 800 runners have already registered for either the 25-km or 9-km distance. The run will be followed by a clean-up day of the Phu Kradueng National Park on 2 October promoting environmental sustainability.

The three-day 'Phu Kradueng Wake up Run' marks the opening of Phu Kradueng's tourist season. The Park is closed for annual rehabilitation from 1 June to 30 September.

Mr. Yuthasak Supasorn, TAT Governor said, "This event serves two very important purposes. The 'Phu Kradueng Wake up Run' helps promote sports tourism to Thailand while also highlighting one of the kingdom's most stunning soft adventure and ecotourism destinations in the country.

"In terms of pure beauty Phu Kradueng National Park is one of the most picturesque places in Thailand,"
Climbing the summit of Phu Kradueng requires stamina and endurance to conquer the rise in elevation of over 1,325 metres above mean sea level that is considered a rite of passage for many Thai trekkers.

The 60-square-metre top plateau of Phu Kradueng is blessed with beautiful scenery, a lush pine forest, indigenous wild flowers and cool climate where hikers enjoy camping in the great outdoors to catch the spectacular first light of day or the sun dipping into the horizon in the evening.

Other attractions include Pha Nok Aen, a cliff that offers a breath-taking view of the crimson sunrise, Pha Lom Sak, a sandstone ledge jutting into space providing a fine view of the hills and valleys, and Pha Yiap Mek, where cottony clouds suggest a misty world of shadow figures.

Phu Kradueng National Park offers both accommodation and available outdoor camping space. Park admission for foreigners is priced at 400 Baht for adults, 200 Baht for children.

Getting there: Take the Bangkok-Loei bus and get off at Pha Nok Khao, the boundary between Khon Kaen and Loei. From there, take a minibus to the Park office at the foot of the mountain and walk up Phu Kradueng for six kilometres.
