Flight Lieutenant Pratana Patanasiri, THAI Vice President, Aviation Safety, Security & Standards, said that on 11 April 2018, flight TG660 flew on the route Bangkok-Tokyo (Haneda) with Boeing 747-400 aircraft, whereby there were a total of 384 passengers and crew on board. While descending to Haneda Airport, the airport air traffic control gave instructions for landing with VHF omni directional radio range (VOR) approach on runway 16 left. Upon arrival to the specified location, the pilot had visual contact of runway 16 left and continued approach by using visual for landing according to standard procedures. On the final part of landing approach, the pilot did not have a clear view of the runway and therefore proceeded to operate based on maximum flight safety standards by making a go around according to standard operating procedure.
The air traffic controller at Haneda Airport then changed the landing runway for the aircraft to land at runway 22, which was uneventful.
The pilot made decisions based on the Aerodrome's geographical landscape and planned for landing based on maximum flight safety standards. The Company will provide full cooperation with all authorities that will conduct an investigation on this occurrence.
