Travellers who booked during these windows in 2017 saved an average of 30 – 40 percent on holiday fares, making the coming week a fantastic time to lock in travel plans for the festivities ahead.

Best Time to Buy Flights for Christmas, New Year and Chinese New Year 2019
According to Expedia data, flights booked in early December can still yield savings of up to 20 percent, while the best time to lock in New Year travel plans is typically in November or early December.
- Christmas: For 2018, the optimal window to book and save is now through to December 4 to save up to 20 percent .
- New Year 2019: For New Year travel plans, the optimal window to book and save is before December 10 to save up to 15 percent .
- Chinese New Year 2019: For those looking to plan ahead for Chinese New Year in 2019, booking your flights now can save you up to 40 percent. If you book your flight between 31 – 60 days, you can still save up to 30 percent .
The holidays are not the time to procrastinate, at least where airfare is concerned. Travellers who waited until the last minute, zero to ten days out, paid the most – 8 – 10 percent above the average ticket price.
Best Time to Book Hotels for Christmas, New Year and Chinese New Year 2019
Travellers have more flexibility when it comes to finding a hotel for the holidays. According to Expedia data, booking a hotel closer to your trip, zero to six days out could save travellers between 20 to 25 percent. This is an instance where waiting until the last minute can result in lower average daily rate as some hoteliers aim to fill unsold rooms.
Waiting until the last minute to book a hotel may be a little nerve-racking.
