Thailand's Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA), Messe Frankfurt and The Exhibiz Co. Ltd. kicked off the 1st International Road show and panel discussion on Smart Technology for Smart City Safe City in Indonesia. The road show is one of the activities to promote Thailand Lighting Fair 2017, the third consecutive trade fair that will take place on 16-18 November 2017 at BITEC, Thailand.

In addition to its flagship lighting technology, the 2017 edition will incorporate a building technology zone to follow Messe Frankfurt's world-class Light+Building series and run concurrently with Secutech Thailand 2017 under the main theme "Smart City Safe City."

Siribhusaya Ungphakorn, Minister Counsellor (Commercial) at the office of Commercial Affairs, Royal Thai Embassy, inaugurated the panel discussion saying that the Royal Thai Government has earmarked 27.9 billion baht of investment for 2017-21 in four digital areas: commerce, entrepreneurship, innovation and content and has announced plans to move Thailand towards a new economy model under "Thailand 4.0", which focuses primarily on ten business sectors.

"The Indonesia road show is designed to open the gate for economic ties and collaboration between Thailand and Indonesia and generate interest in the new opportunities that will arise through Thailand's exhibition platform," Siribhusaya said.

Payomsarit Sripattananon, Deputy Director of Alternative Energy Encouragement and Efficiency Department of the PEA said that ASEAN energy trends are all pointing towards the smart city ideal. PEA have developed series of technology infrastructures that provide a solid foundation for smart city development, for example, the PEA smart grid seamlessly connects the electricity system with the information technology and the communications systems, while the PEA smart meters will optimise the power system operation to be more efficient, safe and reliable.

Pakwan Jiamjiroj, General Manager of The Exhibiz Co Ltd, said the event is expected to have 700 exhibitors and over 15,000 visitors from over 40 countries. The road show begins in Indonesia and will then proceed to Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar, all of which have demonstrated strong economic growth and rising demands for new technology.

Running alongside the shows are ASEAN Smart City Conference 2017 and ASEAN Architecture & Lighting Design Conference 2017, together with a series of international conferences, seminars, workshops and certificate courses by industry speakers from Thailand and overseas.
