WHA Utilities and Power Public Company Limited (WHAUP) presses on with 4.88-MW solar carpark project installation, with a total area of 31,000 square meters, on the car park area of MG cars manufacturing plant owned by SAIC MOTOR-CP Co., Ltd. The largest solar carpark in Thailand, it is expected to be completed within the first quarter of 2020 and to generate an average annual revenue of THB 20 million throughout the 20 year-contract. The company's Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Wisate Chungwatana, has adjusted WHAUP's target for this year to 25 megawatts from the initial target of 15 megawatts. He said clients today are more interested in green energy, which helps reduce costs, save energy and protect the environment. The company maintains the 5-year target to complete the investment of 100-MW solar rooftops by2022.

Mr. Wisate Chungwatana, Chief Executive Officer of WHA Utilities and Power Public Company Limited (WHAUP), said that the company signed the contract in Q2 2019 with SAIC Motor Company - CP Co., Ltd. to install a solar carpark facility on the company's MG cars manufacturing plant car park area. With the total roof area of 31,000 square meters, the newly constructed roof structure will provide shading for approximately 2,000 vehicles and generate a total electricity capacity of 4.88 MW for the plant's consumption. The plant and solar carpark project site is located in the WHA Eastern Seaboard Industrial Estate 2 (WHA ESIE 2). The project is expected to be completed within Q1 2020, which will enable the company to generate an average annual revenue of THB 20 million throughout the 20-year contract period.

"For this project, WHAUP will assign its subsidiary WHASL to be responsible for the investment and installation of the car park structure and solar system. The project will require an investment budget of approximately THB 175 million. The company's fully-integrated service encompasses entire project development process including permiting and licensing, design and engineering, construction and installation as well as operation and maintenance throughout the contract period. Customers can rely on the expertise and professionalism of our working team that has long-term experience in serving our industrial customers for their energy and utility needs. Our solar rooftop service will help to save energy cost for customers as well as fulfill their environmental targets," said Mr. Wisate.

WHAUP's CEO revealed that many customers, both inside and outside WHA Industrial Estates, have expressed interest in solar rooftops. During the first half of 2019, the target for solar roof power has already exceeded 15 MW per year. WHAUP plans to adjust its target to 25 MW for this year. When combined with over 10 MW solar rooftops already installed and commercially operational since early this year, WHAUP solar rooftop portfolio will already reach the total of 35 MW. Therefore, it is confidently on course to fulfillthe 5-year target to complete the investment of 100-MW solar rooftops by 2022.

The company is now in the process of installing 20.3 megawatts which should be operated commercially during Q3 2019 to Q1 2020. As of now, about 7.1 megawatts are already in use, showing WHAUP's potential to provide services to industrial estate clients who are interested in green energy to save costs, energy and the environment.
