Bangkok--31 Mar--Centara Grand Beach Resort & Villas Hua Hin

As a responsible member of the Hua Hin community and a truly iconic resort, Centara Grand Beach Resort & Villas Hua Hin is devoting significant resources to its sustainability program, embracing inspiring Earth-friendly initiatives throughout 2020 that align with the resort’s continual commitment towards long-term sustainable development.

Most recently, the resort lent its full support this past weekend to Earth Hour 2020, an annual global event organised by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) that raises awareness and takes action on important environmental issues that aim to protect the planet. Centara Grand Hua Hin was proud to be a part of Earth Hour 2020, one of the world's largest movements for the environment, marking the event with a variety of activities carried out in support of this year’s featured theme on eliminating single-use plastic and other materials.

Along with energy-saving measures such as switching off non-essential lighting in public areas, and turning off all non-critical electrical appliances that don't affect the safety of guests, the hotel also offered a week of special activities leading up to the March 28 celebration for guests to take part in. Activity highlights included creating lampshades from recycled paper; making new candles using leftover wax and old candle jars, giving guests the chance to enjoy the many benefits of arts and crafts while boosting their design creativity. The newly-made lampshades and candles were put to good use in the hotel’s lobbies, around the swimming pools and beachfront, as well as across the resort premises during the symbolic lights-out event that was held on March 28, from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm.

Furthermore, the hotel also added a new shopping feature, EarthCare Corner, to its souvenir boutique, Something to Remember, to promote a more Earth-friendly shopping experience for guests. True to its name, the EarthCare Corner is a green products shop-within-a-shop offering a range of retail products, gifts and souvenirs that cause minimal harm to people and to the environment. Each corner gives guests access to a wide selection of sustainable products from local communities, promotes awareness of sustainability issues and enhances the overall guest experience. Guests can find the perfect item to remember their trip — unique crafts, high-quality mugs and travel bags, clothing, swimwear, accessories, and much more — while helping to sustain planet Earth for future generations.

Ranges of product available at Centara Grand Hua Hin's EarthCare Corner include:

Centara Signature Products: Switching from single-use disposable products to reusable items is key to combatting the damage caused by plastic waste and pollution. Centara Signature Products are designed to be used and reused again and again, helping preserve the environment by significantly reducing the amount of single-use plastic that is thrown away.

Community Products: Supporting local businesses can give a boost to environmental protection, especially considering the carbon footprint implications of transporting goods across long distances. Community Products are handcrafted from natural materials and produced in Thailand, 50 not only will purchasing these products help the environment, it will also contribute toward sustaining local culture and craftsmanship.

Products from Recycled Materials: Recycling is another effective way to protect the environment. Centara EarthCare Corner promotes products that transform waste into new objects and highlights interesting products made from recycled materials.

Centara EarthCare Corner is being progressively introduced at eight key Something to Remember locations in Thailand and the Maldives such as Centara Grand Mirage Beach Resort Pattaya, Centara Grand Beach Resort & Villas Hua Hin, Centara Grand Beach Resort Phuket, Centara Grand Beach Resort & Villas Krabi, Centara Ao Nang Beach Resort & Spa Krabi, Centara Sonrisa Residences and Suites Sriracha as well as Centara Grand Island Resort & Spa Maldives and Centara Ras Fushi Resort & Spa Maldives.
