Bangkok--25 Dec--Verve
The green construction market size is expected to grow by 14% next year as Thai leaderships recognise green buildings even more.

SCG Green Building Solution, a division of SCG Cement-Building Materials, today gave an overview of its success in green building consultancy with a strong portfolio of LEED and TREES certified clients. The company unfolded a plan to step up its consultancy business in 2018 and encourage market transformation towards green building development. Its scope of services will expand to energy consulting and its client base will also be broadened to meet the uptrend of green buildings. While organisations are giving increased priority to green building and sustainable development, the market for green building construction is expected to grow 14% by value next year, thanks to the government's policy in favour of energy efficiency, reduced emission of greenhouse gases and green building certification. SCG Green Building Solution foresaw its revenues to reach 1.4 billion baht in 2017 and is targeting at a growth of 20% in 2018.

Mr Narin Chucharoen, Managing Director for Innovative Solution Business at SCG Cement-Building Materials, said, "SCG Green Building Solution is the first expert and the only full-service design and construction consultancy for compliance with international standards for sustainable buildings. We expect the green construction market in Thailand to grow 14% year on year to a size of 9.7 billion baht in 2018 as organisations are giving priority to energy-saving, eco-friendly buildings. Besides, the government is promoting energy efficiency and cuts in greenhouse gases emissions. It also encourages new construction projects to seek green building certification, with incentives including more generous floor area ratio (FAR) allowed for certified buildings. As a result, the market for green buildings will continue its upward trend."

To align its operation in 2018 with the growth trend, SCG Green Building will expand its business and client base vigorously. The scope of services will extend to energy consultancy along with addition of certification consultancy for renovation projects. Use of green building materials will be promoted for construction projects of government and private organisations. In the meantime, product development will be focused on green building materials. Human resources development will also be intensified by enrolling company's people in training programmes offered by professional institutions on a regular basis, both in Thailand and abroad. SCG Green Building Solution has a strong team of energy conservation consultants that include the first Thai expert who have been certified by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) as Building Energy Modeling Professional and High-Performance Building Design Professional. In addition, the company will reiterate SCG's strength as the leading producer with exceptional expertise in green building materials.

"A shift of new construction and renovation projects towards energy-saving, sustainable building has become more evident over the past few years, resulting in continued growth of the market for green buildings and the consultancy business overall. SCG Green Building Solution has been operational since 2015 with a year-on-year growth of about 20%. We expect our revenues to exceed 1.4 billion baht this year and project a growth of 20% to 1.7 billion baht in 2018," Mr Narin revealed.

Miss Kanapapha Akapha, Green Building Solution Manager at SCG Cement-Building Materials, added, "The trend for green buildings is growing strong on grounds of multiple advantages, including energy conservation and sustainability. A green building can reduce energy consumption by 10% up to 48% and simultaneously heighten the well-being and productivity of its occupants. It helps enhance corporate image and echoes sustainability vision of the proprietor organisation, which will consequently strengthen business and investment sentiments of the company. Besides, being green gives the building its added values: there's a potential for higher rents if the space is for rent, and the building management and maintenance costs can be much lower in long term. With all these advantages, government and private organisations are keen to embrace green building development."

SCG Green Building Solution offers two types of consulting. Firstly, consultancy for green building certification encompasses feasibility study on clients' potentials for a successful certification; expert advice on design, construction and choice of building materials that meet the green building criteria; building's energy modeling; building systems audit; and certification proposal. Secondly, product consultancy provides advice and information about green building materials and/or products that carry SCG Eco Value label or others that comply with green building specifications of LEED and TREES rating systems, as well as other relevant products. The company's high-calibre team of green building consultants is comprised of highly-qualified, highly-experienced architects, engineers, materials scientists and energy conservation specialists who are ready to provide professional advice and support as "the expert behind the new sustainability milestone of clients".

"To recount our recent success, the list of green building certifications achieved by leading organisations through our consultancy include LEED Gold rating for Green Innovation Wellness production facilities of Specialty Innovation Ltd., TREES Platinum rating for product R&D facilities of Daikin Industries, TREES Gold rating for Toyota Nakorn Chonburi Showroom and TREES Silver rating for Yamaha Riders' Club on Pradit Manutham Road. In addition to these, SCG Green Building Solution handles a multi-industry client portfolio with green building certifications already achieved for more than 70 projects, including 15 Toyota showrooms nationwide, 47 Starbucks Coffee outlets in Thailand with more of them in process, Doi Kham Headquarters and a residential development project on Langsuan," Miss Kanapapha recounted.

SCG Green Building Solution is ready to be part of green endeavours and impel the shift of industries towards green building development for sustainability and better quality of life.
