Bangkok--31 Jan--Make A Wealth Consulting

The Association of Siamese Architects under the Royal Patronage of His Majesty and TTF International Co., Ltd. announced Architect Expo 2018 under the concept, "Beyond Ordinary: ไม่ธรรมดา", to be held from May 1-6, 2018 at Challenger Hall 1-3, IMPACT, Bangkok. The Expo aims to showcase local architectural design in the Thai contemporary lifestyle and international innovative building materials.

"Architect Expo is the biggest exhibition of architectural works, materials, and construction technology in Southeast Asia, attracting more than 350,000 participants each year. It has been held annually since 1986 and this is our 32nd exhibition," said Mr. Ajapol Dusitnanond, President of the Association of Siamese Architects under the Royal Patronage of His Majesty (ASA). "Our main purpose is to present the work and showcase architectural advancement in every profession. It is also to display innovative products and construction procedure technology, architecture-related materials, interior design, and landscape architecture. We organize many exhibitions, activities, and multinational seminars that cater to both members and the general public."

"Each year, the objective of Architect Expo is different as the committees use different approaches to ensure the vision of the architecture community keeps up with global change. The concept for 2018, "Vernacular Living", focuses on the role and transition of architecture and local architectural design in the Thai contemporary lifestyle. We trust that this expo will benefit not only architects but also people of other architecture-related professions and all participants."

Asst. Prof. Apiradee Kasemsook, Chairperson of the Architect Expo 2018, revealed that this year's objective "Vernacular Living" under the concept of "Beyond Ordinary: ไม่ธรรมดา" will emphasize procedures of architectural design in the Thai contemporary lifestyle.

Beyond simply "Vernacular Living", Architect Expo 2018 aims to illustrate through various exhibitions and activities how local architecture responds to contemporary changes and challenges such as economic globalization, global warming, and rural-urban migration. It is the first time that members of the profession, designers, craftspeople, and other talented people of diverse age groups get together to discuss and question Thai contemporary architecture via five differently-designed pavilion exhibitions: Living Space Pavilion, Working Space Pavilion, Meeting Space Pavilion, Moving System Pavilion, and Introduction Pavilion.

1. Living Space Pavilion - Designed by Boonlert Hemvijitraphan from Boon Design. This exhibition displays the transformation of vernacular architecture from traditional to contemporary forms through photographs, lighting design, and fireplace structure models and reveals that mass-production houses are not the definite answer to living space.

2. Working Space Pavilion - Designed by Jariyawaddee Lekawatana and Luke Yeung from ARCHITECTKIDD. This exhibition shows the transition of working space from before and after industrialization through the mix use of furniture arrangement and multimedia. It also illustrates how working space used to be incorporated with living space before industrialization, separate from living space after industrialization and, today, is back to being shared with living space again in the mass technology era.

3. Meeting Space Pavilion - Designed by Suriya Umpansiriratana from Walllasia. This exhibition distinctively uses a game application to demonstrate the overlap of public meeting spaces and online space. It also questions the interrelation between physical real-world environments and augmented reality (AR) and how their interactions can alter the use of urban meeting spaces.

4. Moving System Pavilion - Designed by Prof. Veera Inpantang and Pitch Poshyananda and built with applied nail-less structure. This wooden pavilion is a presentation of moving system, which questions the creation of local traditional transportation and the development of online technology that helps enhance the exchange of products and services, including changes in urban space.

5. Introduction Pavilion - Designed by Savitri Paisalwattana, and Jakub Gardolinski from PAGAA together with Methus Srisuchart from MAGLA. This exhibition highlights the role and significance of Thailand's vernacular architecture and its founders. The pavilion structure is built with a pneumatic architecture system that characteristically shifts due to environmental factors.

There are also 20 other pavilions designed by Thai architects and designers covering a variety of themes. In addition, the Architect Expo 2018 hosts a diverse range of recreational activities for participants in its main area. These activities include Workshops for practical knowledge, performances and other entertainment at Centre Stage, ASA Sketch lessons for drawers, and ASA Guide (Mor-Baan ASA) trainings for architecture and design consultancy provided by a team of volunteer architects. Also the ASA International Design Competition 2018 is free and open to anyone around the world. This year's theme is "VEX : Agitated Vernacular" which is tasking participants to upend the typical associations of vernacular architecture and design.

As for academic activity which has always been an important part of the annual event, ASA Forum 2018 is an international conference for designers and architects. The programme will include world-renowned architects on the lineup such as Han Tuemertekin from Turkey and Jose María Sánchez García from Spain.

Mr. Supaman Munka, Deputy Managing Director of TTF International Co., Ltd., stated that Architect Expo 2018 will be the largest building materials exposition in Southeast Asia, attracting exhibitors and participants from all over the world who will experience state-of-the-art construction technology from IMAG GmbH, affiliates of Germany's Messe Munchen who organize BAU, the world's most famous and biggest building and construction expo. Moreover, there will be many other displays of innovative construction materials from various countries including Australia, Japan, Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, China, the United States, and Vietnam. The 75000 square-meter Expo has received more than 800 rsvp-ed exhibitors and is expected to generate more than 10 billion baht in revenue.

"The growth in real estate sector and construction shows a clear positive sign," Mr. Munka continued. "The economic growth resulting from the government investment, together with an increase in consumption, allow us to expand our construction contracts from both within the country and outside the country. The Architect Expo 2018 will be an important key to economic index. I am thrilled to say that this year we have received various top-notch innovative architectural works from Europe and the US and we can provide our attendees with the best construction products available. You should not miss it."
