Project Signing: New Loan Agreement to Support 24x7 Power for All in Andhra Pradesh Stcoks—23 Jun 17

NEW DELHI, June 22, 2017 – The Government of India, the Government of Andhra Pradesh, and the World Bank today signed a $240 million loan agreement to support the Government of Andhra Pradesh provide reliable, quality, and affordable 24x7 power to its citizens.

The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) also signed a $140 million loan agreement with the government for this project. The project is the first in India being co-financed by the AIIB. The World Bank and AIIB will provide loans in a 60:40 ratio for all components of the project.

The loan agreement for the Andhra Pradesh 24x7 Power for All Project was signed by Raj Kumar, Joint Secretary, Department of Economic Affairs on behalf of the Government of India; K Ranganatham, Advisor, Department of Energy, Government of Andhra Pradesh, on behalf of the Government of Andhra Pradesh; D J Pandian, Vice President and Chief Investment Officer, AIIB, on behalf of the AIIB; and Hisham Abdo Kahin, Operations Manager and Acting Country Director, World Bank India, on behalf of the World Bank.

The energy demand in Andhra Pradesh is expected to grow to 78,900 GWh (Gigawatt-hour) by FY 2019 from 56,313 GWh in FY 2015, which implies an annual energy requirement of more than 8.5 percent.
