Kyndryl and Microsoft Report: 82% of Thai Organizations Show Strong IT-Sustainability Alignment, as AI Emerges as the Next Lever to Unlock Greener Growth

Kyndryl, a leading provider of mission-critical enterprise technology services, in collaboration with Microsoft, today announced the findings of the third annual Global Sustainability Barometer Study, conducted by Ecosystm. Thailand organizations demonstrated some of the highest levels of collaboration between IT and sustainability teams in the region, with more than eight in ten (82%) reporting strong alignment across these functions - outperforming the global average of 73%. The results show that Thailand presents one of the strongest signs of organizational readiness to strengthen sustainability and integrate AI into environmental decision-making.

One in three (32%) of these organizations also maintained or advanced their sustainability goals this year, showing that Thailand's business landscape is maturing in sustainability awareness and action, as companies respond to evolving environmental, social, and governance (ESG) expectations, investor priorities, and emerging reporting frameworks across industries.

"Thailand enterprises are strengthening the foundation needed to achieve long-term sustainability impact," said Kittipong Asawapichayon, Managing Director, Kyndryl Thailand. "The next opportunity lies in moving from reactive sustainability practices to approaches that embed sustainability into the core of the business. As organizations shift from legacy-centered models to more integrated approaches and strengthen their data and AI capabilities, they will be poised to accelerate decisions, improve efficiency, and deliver even more impactful environmental outcomes."

Thailand Demonstrates Readiness to Drive and Lead Future AI-driven Sustainable Growth

Today, one in five (20%) of IT teams in Thailand drive sustainability initiatives across the enterprise, as 32% of sustainability leaders hold influence in IT governance - indicating Thai enterprises' readiness to align business, technology, and environmental priorities. More organizations are also using AI to strengthen environmental outcomes, with one in two now using predictive tools to anticipate climate risks to operations and assets.

However, AI remains nascent in its adoption curve for strategic use, with 28% using AI centrally for sustainability and 57% deploying, piloting and implementing, or considering Agentic AI for real-time environmental action. Organizations note data collection and data quality as areas for improvement as they prepare for more advanced AI applications. Many organizations are also still in the early stages of embedding sustainability into core business operations, with one out of ten enterprises currently classified as integration-focused. This shows that while Thailand's sustainability operating model is continuing to evolve, there remain numerous opportunities to drive greater impact.

"The 2025 Global Sustainability Barometer Study shows that more than half of leading organizations now use predictive AI to anticipate and act on sustainability challenges - rather than just to track and analyze - making forward-looking intelligence central to sustainability strategy," said Ricardo Davila, GM, Enterprise Partner Solutions, Microsoft. "We're proud to partner across the ecosystem to help every organization turn sustainability into a data-driven operating capability."

Key Thailand Findings:

  • Thailand is strengthening foundational sustainability capabilities: Environmental sustainability is gaining strategic traction across Thailand enterprises, with 57% of organizations now treating sustainability as a top strategic priority. One in three Thailand organizations (32%) drive sustainability through proactive or consistent initiatives, which shows that Thailand's sustainability journey, while still in its early stages, continues to build momentum.
  • ROI and cost efficiency are driving sustainability decisions: Thailand's ESG efforts are strongly tied to financial performance. 65% of organizations cite reduced operational costs as the top benefit of sustainability initiatives - one of the higher rates across APAC. 45% also expect sustainability to drive innovation and unlock new revenue opportunities, and 50% accelerated initiatives last year after proving clearer ROI. 48% rate consistent measurement of ROI an ongoing challenge.
  • Thailand's 'green AI awakening' marks a major shift in readiness: Awareness of AI's environmental footprint has risen sharply, jumping from 7% to 42% in a single year. Thailand also shows progress in harnessing predictive capabilities, with 50% of organizations now using AI to anticipate climate risks. However, only 28% use AI centrally to inform sustainability decisions, and data readiness gaps remain barriers to broader adoption.

"There is clear momentum toward intelligence-driven sustainability, and organizations increasingly recognize the value created when technology and strategy align," said Sash Mukherjee, Vice President, Industry Insights, Ecosystm. "With stronger data foundations, enterprises can harness predictive and agentic AI to embed faster decisions, greater efficiency, and stronger resilience into sustainability practice."
