The beauty of cultural exchange lies in more than the sense of wonder that comes with a first encounter between two cultures. It also lies in what happens after familiarity grows: when a more natural, relaxed and everyday way of being together can take root.
On 8 August, 2026 Weibo Cultural Communication Night (Thailand), organised by Weibo and operated by Hydroindus Entertainment Co., Ltd. (Hydroindus), was successfully held in Bangkok under the theme "?????,?????" — Together in Melody, Together in Harmony", When the Chao Phraya Sings, Mountains and Seas Resonate in Harmony."The event brought together a themed market, star-studded red carpet, cultural performances and an awards ceremony, creating a cultural platform that seamlessly integrated all four elements into one experience.
Following the success of the Weibo Cultural Communication Night in Thailand in 2025, which marked the IPs first visit to the country and represented an initial meeting of Chinese and Thai cultural symbols, a sense of certainty was established: "We can meet here again." This year, as Weibo Cultural Communication Night returned to the banks of the Chao Phraya, it sought to explore a deeper question: when cultural exchange becomes an established part of everyday life, what can this connection grow into next?
From a One-Day Celebration to a Cultural Market
Bringing Encounters into Everyday Life. For the first time, Weibo Cultural Communication Night involved a *Themed Market and Celebration Night", allowing this cultural encounter to extend beyond a single evening and become part of the rhythm of everyday life. The market brought together distinctive Chinese and Thai cuisine, engaging toys and creative products, as well as interactive experiences featuring various IP characters.
In collaboration with the Macao Government Tourism Office, the event also introduced a special two-city experience, "Macao Flair ? Bangkok Night", inviting visitors to experience the charm of Macao in Bangkok and savour the distinctive character of two cities along the Chao Phraya River. The initiative presented an innovative local interpretation of how different cultures can coexist harmoniously while retaining their individual identities.
The market also featured renowned local food, exquisite handicrafts, a diverse selection of creative products, as well as distinctive local skincare and fashion brands. Together, they created a vibrant promenade filled with the sights, sounds and energy of everyday life, attracting Thai residents and international visitors who stopped by throughout the event.
Within the Themed Market, artists including Kornchid Boonsathipakdee or Gao Qingchen (???) and many others also made surprise visits to the stalls, meeting and taking photographs with attendees. Their appearances brought further excitement and energy to the market, creating memorable opportunities for visitors to meet their favourite artists up close.
The event offered audiences a more immersive opportunity to participate in cultural exchange. Cultural exchange was no longer simply something to observe from a distance on a stage; instead, it became an unexpected encounter amid the aromas of food, laughter from interactive activities, and the sharing and conversations that continued to unfold across social media. Through experiences that could be seen, explored and enjoyed first-hand, audiences discovered the charm of Chinese-Thai cultural fusion, while naturally building anticipation for the celebration night on 8 August.
Two Cultures, One Expression
Resonance and Integration on the Chinese-Thai Stage.
As cultural exchange continues to develop, what the celebration night reflected was no longer simply the meeting of cultural symbols, but the resonance and integration that emerge when cultures become deeply connected.
This connection was reflected in the details of the event, from the guest and artist line-up. Thai actress Lina Lanina joined the celebration as a representative of Thailand's artistic community, expressing her pride and appreciation at being part of this significant occasion. Meanwhile, Thai artists who made their names and developed their careers in China, including Sunnee (???) and Gao Qingchen (???), represent a vivid example of a new generation of Thai talent growing across cultural boundaries.
At the same time, Chen Yanxi (???) and Ren Jialun (???), Chinese artists who have built a substantial audience in Thailand through their popular Chinese-language productions, provided another clear reflection of the growing international reach of Chinese-language content. The appearance of Olympic gold medallist Chen Meng (??) added another dimension to the cultural dialogue beyond entertainment: the spirit of sport, embodying determination, respect and openness, shares the same foundation as the principles of cultural exchange, mutual learning and coexistence.
From entertainment to sport, people from different fields and backgrounds stood side by side. What emerged was more than simply "diversity"; it was a cultural ecosystem moving towards deeper integration, and one of the most vivid reflections of cultural exchange between China and Thailand.
The beauty of this cultural connection and shared resonance was brought to life even more vividly through the evening's performances.
The opening performance, "Sawasdee", became one of the evening's most distinctive cultural moments. The performance began with a fusion of Chinese opera and Thai likay (Thai musical folk drama) , creating a space where the distinctive local cultures of both countries could meet and communicate on the same stage. This was followed by four artists from China and Thailand coming together to perform.
The word "Sawasdee", one of the most recognisable Thai greetings, naturally conveys a sense of welcome, encounter and friendship. When artists from both countries came together to sing the word, an everyday greeting was elevated into a cultural invitation extended to guests from around the world. It also transformed the theme "?????,?????" — "Together in Melody, Together in Harmony", into a lively artistic expression that created a strong sense of connection with the audience.
Gao Qingchen and Chen Yanxi then performed" City of Stars", a song about pursuing dreams and finding connection. Through their interpretation, the song took on a meaning that extended beyond its original context. As a Thai artist, Gao Qingchen brought to the song the light of a dream pursued while building a life and career far from home, while Chen Yanxi, as a Chinese actress, responded with a sense of resonance born from crossing the sea to meet. The city in the song was no longer Los Angeles, but Bangkok at that very moment; and the encounter within the song became an encounter witnessed by the many people gathered that evening.
Harmony Beyond Cultural Boundaries
Shared resonance did not come solely from the stage. It also emerged from diverse voices across different dimensions, coming together, recognising one another and responding to each other within the same space.
The Thailand-exclusive IP mascot of Weibo Cultural Communication Night, "Jixiang (??)", an adorable elephant, appeared on the red carpet as one of the most distinctive and recognisable local representations of Thailand's tourism culture. Jixiang's appearance, together with its playful interactions with guests and audiences, created a charming and unexpected moment within the cultural exchange, adding further vibrancy to the celebration.
The presence of sustainability was another important expression of "harmony". The red-carpet area featured a backdrop centred on sustainable development, while the awards ceremony recognised the participation and contributions of organisations and guests from the cultural and sporting sectors in cultural exchange and social responsibility. The event also unveiled an ESG company list, reflecting an ongoing commitment to advancing sustainability from the previous event in Malaysia to this year's Thailand edition.
From a business perspective in particular, when the long-term value of organisations across environmental, social and governance dimensions is placed within the narrative of international cultural exchange, culture and business discover common ground under the shared principle of "sustainability".
The appearance of XPeng, the Chinese smart electric vehicle manufacturer, transformed "harmony in business" from an abstract concept into a tangible vision of mobility and travel. For XPeng, the event was not simply an opportunity to increase brand awareness overseas; it also provided a platform to become part of the broader story of cultural exchange and to establish authentic connections with local audiences.
Perhaps the most moving resonance of all came from voices that reached far beyond the stage. Fans from China and Thailand came together in an ongoing exchange of support across social media. On Weibo, the main hashtag #WeiboCulturalCommunicationNight continued to gain views, while related topics gradually climbed the trending searches. Thai fans captured memorable moments of He Changxi (???), while Chinese fans shared heartfelt messages of support for Lingling Kwong. Fans of Chen Meng (??) also shared her striking moments on the red carpet with an even wider audience.
These voices from ordinary people, like the songs performed on stage, were an essential part of "When the Chao Phraya Sings, Mountains and Seas Resonate in Harmony."When shared resonance is no longer simply the domain of celebrities but becomes something created by everyone, cultural exchange gains its most authentic and enduring vitality.
As an international cultural IP created by Weibo, Weibo Cultural Communication Night has travelled to Thailand, Singapore, Macao and Malaysia. Its return to Thailand therefore represents a declaration in itself: the true value of this IP lies not simply in "how many places it has visited", but in whether it can "take root and grow in the same place."
As the cultural market brought new colour to Bangkok's evenings, and Chinese opera and Thai likay responded to one another on the same stage, audiences witnessed something beyond the simple display of cultural symbols side by side. Instead, they witnessed an encounter that is gradually becoming part of everyday life.
The Tourism Authority of Thailand also received the "Weibo Thailand Best Tourism Destination of the Year"award during the celebration, reflecting how the event has evolved beyond simply serving as a window for showcasing culture. It has become both a witness to and a driver of closer cultural and tourism connections between China and Thailand.
"????? — Together in Melody, Together in Harmony" is not a one-time song, but an ongoing echo between cultures. Cultural exchange does not end when the celebration night draws to a close. It continues amid the sights, sounds and energy of everyday life on the streets, through interactions on social media, and through every moment of cross-cultural understanding and appreciation. It happens time and again, takes root and flourishes, and continues to resonate.
What Weibo is doing is creating fertile ground for this growth to take root. It provides a space where government and the private sector, traditional culture and technology, business and the humanities, and the online and offline worlds can nurture one another, together forming a sustainable cultural ecosystem.
When exchange is no longer simply an "event", but becomes part of "everyday life", the walls between cultures gradually disappear. In their place countless bridges emerge, woven from different directions and extending towards different destinations.
