The Islamic Bank of Thailand (ibank) is connecting Islamic finance leaders and experts from around the world to exchange perspectives on strengthening economic resilience, mobilizing transition finance, and expanding opportunities for international collaboration. The international forum, "Islamic Finance: From Crisis Resilience to Transition Finance," will be held as an Affiliated Program in conjunction with the 2026 Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group, hosted by Thailand. The event is scheduled for Wednesday, 14 October 2026, at the Grand Ballroom, The Westin Grande Sukhumvit, Bangkok.
Amid global economic uncertainty and the challenges facing the financial sector, strengthening resilience while preparing for the future has become increasingly important. Islamic finance offers a valuable perspective through its emphasis on fairness, responsibility, and the connection between financial transactions and the real economy. These principles can be further applied to support economic growth and the transition towards a more sustainable economy.
The forum will bring together leaders and experts from Thailand and abroad to explore how Islamic finance can strengthen economic resilience, respond to global challenges, and mobilize capital for the future. Their exchange of perspectives will also highlight opportunities to connect financial ideas with economic development and international collaboration. Adding further depth to the discussion, the forum will feature keynote addresses by Mr. Aroon Boonchom, His Eminence Sheikhul Islam of Thailand, and H.E. Dr. Muhammad Sulaiman Al Jasser, Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Group Chairman. They will share perspectives on the values underpinning Islamic finance and the role of finance in advancing economic and social development.
The program will also feature a panel discussion bringing together three distinguished speakers from Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand, representing both the financial sector and academia. Together, they will explore how Islamic finance can move beyond crisis resilience to support long-term economic transition, drawing on insights from different markets and institutional contexts. The discussion will examine how Islamic financial institutions can respond to evolving economic needs, mobilize capital for sustainable investment, and strengthen collaboration across sectors and borders. It will also highlight opportunities for regional knowledge-sharing and cooperation in advancing a more resilient and sustainable financial future.
For Thailand, the event will also provide an opportunity to share perspectives on Islamic finance within the context of the country's multicultural and religiously diverse society, while promoting knowledge exchange and building networks with international partners. Through this forum, ibank aims to lay the groundwork for collaboration that can create lasting economic and social value, particularly by enhancing the capabilities and resilience of Thailand's Islamic finance sector.
ibank invites policymakers, financial institution executives, business leaders, academics, and interested participants to join the forum, gain fresh perspectives on the future of Islamic finance, hear insights from international leaders and experts, exchange experiences, and explore opportunities for collaboration towards a more resilient and sustainable economy.
