Adding to these options is Aptis, a modern English language test developed by the British Council. Unlike traditional exams, Aptis focuses on real-life communication skills, offering rapid results within 48 hours and scores aligned with the globally recognised CEFR framework of language capability.
Aptis' flexibility is its key advantage — organisations can tailor the test to assess specific skills relevant to their objectives, and can deliver the tests themselves in their own office or workplace - there is no need to wait for scheduled test-dates or go to special test centres.
In a major milestone for English education in Thailand, Aptis has now been officially recognised by three major educational bodies:
- The Office of the Basic Education Commission (OBEC)
- The Ministry of Education
- The Teachers' Council of Thailand
This recognition means that Aptis results can now be officially submitted within Thailand's education system — expanding its utility for students, educators, and professionals alike.
Those interested in taking the Aptis test can register through partner institutions, including the Human Capital Excellence Management Centres (HCEMC) under the Office of the Basic Education Commission (OBEC). Most recently, the British Council has partnered with Khon Kaen University International College (KKUIC) to establish an official Aptis test centre, further enhancing access for candidates across Thailand's Northeast region.
Danny Whitehead, Director of the British Council in Thailand, commented: "We're delighted that people across Thailand now have the possibility to pursue their career and personal goals with the Aptis test, and that Thai organisations now have the most flexible and reliable English language assessment tool to improve the skills of their workforce. The official recognition of Aptis by OBEC marks a significant step forward. Aptis is more than just a test — it's a tool designed to accurately assess real-world communication skills and empower Thais with globally relevant language abilities. We are proud to support Thailand's educational and economic development and to be a long-standing partner in advancing English language learning across the country."
